The way we hear it, two potential top-15 picks could be significantly affected by results from the Combine re-check. According to multiple sources, Clemson DE Da'Quan Bowers and USC OLT Tyron Smith both have received very concerning, low grades after having what was said to be meniscus surgery on their right knees following the season. Bowers has been very slow to recover from January surgery because he already had what three team doctors deemed to be microfracture surgery, and his knee condition is considered to be degenerative.

"He should get better with added strength," one NFL executive said. "But he will have future problems because the damage is too bad."

Interesting............Castanzo

lol. i will reserve judgment on this article until the board doctors have there say:D

The Smith things reaks of "team lower than Cowboys knows they have no shot to get him, starts rumors in hopes said team/s get scared off"

Smith just landed in our laps for sure if Peterson isn't available.

I love it.

You really think some team can say "player X has this injury and it is this bad" and they have some kind of access to that information that no other team has?

I cant believe you actually think any team is that naive.

If any team is interested they are going to do their homework.

Sometimes people put too much thought into this stuff around draft time.

Smith had surgery on December 17 and had nearly an extra month to recover. He didn't work out at the Combine and, despite showing surprisingly well at his pro day, could also be affected by unfavorable medical grades, which every team medical staff evaluates differently.

"We've had (Smith) at the bottom of the first all along," said an NFL executive. "The media has pushed him up. No one questions the traits. But there is a miss factor. Remember everyone was surprised when Winston Justice slid. We had him (graded) in the fourth round. The medical could push (Smith) out of the first, no question. I would love for him to go in the top 10, but I'd be shocked if he came close."

Lies! Lies I tell you!

Yeah one or two teams always seems to miss badly on players each year. we ought to know about that, right?

considering how good Smith looked at his pro day, I think this is typical smoke spewed at this time. Still two weeks to go; so more of this is coming.

Lombardi was on Path to the Draft (today) talking about Bowers' bad knee, and he talked about how he thought that he wouldn't go in the top 10 or very high in round 1. Also, Lombardi quoted one team saying that they would take Bowers in round 2. He talked about the risk of Bowers having a short career. Lombardi also mentioned Mark Ingram's knee hurting his stock.

Then, Lombardi and Casserly did a segment on Dallas, and both agreed that Dallas should draft Tyron Smith at 9. Lombardi called Smith the young, athletic player Dallas "desperately" needs on their old offensive line. Lombardi called Smith a combo LT/RT, too. Neither one mentioned Smith in this regard.

I want some confirmation, because medical reports can be "interpreted" (like the doctor stated) differently, and this is the season where teams don't tell the truth.

Bowers had trouble moving while Smith tore his pro day up.

Any team worth a dime is going to do their research and not just take some report for gospel.

I sure hope the Cowboys are smarter then that. If they think Smith is that good it sure would be a shame to miss out on him because you bought into a report.

If it's true it hurts Smith, if it's smoke then Dallas will see through it.

Rewatch it tonight at the end casserly mentions this. Towards the end of the show dont think it was during the cowboys segment .

Jimmy said they used to start rumors about players they were interested in, sometimes in the hopes that other teams would lose interest or maybe scratch a guy completely.

Those teams deserve to fail.

It would be silly to buy these reports at face value.

Well unfortunately that kicks me off the Tyron Smith bandwagon:( Give me a trade down and grab either Costanzo, Sherrod, or Carimi.

Probably rarely works, but maybe its enough for some team to cast some doubt somewhere and maybe take another player instead. If it happens the scheme worked.

From what I've always heard, the Cowboys are among the most thorough teams when it comes to rookies with health issues being medically evaluated, so I doubt anything that someone plants has any impact on them.

The bolded comment in the OP I was responding to is clearly a comment from a team personnel person, and his statement clearly clashes with what alot of people are saying about Smith. Gooselin definitely isnt agreeing with his statement, and Gosselin gets his info from NFL people.

I'd be absolutely shocked if Smith lasted past pick 15-18, and I really think he'll go in the top-13

Thought saw on ESPN show today that Bowers knee checked out fine last week end. Lot of disinformation out there. Smith looked fine on Pro day. I'll still take him.

and another team doctor came out and said Bowers knee looks good. Someone will gamble and take him.
