Combine thread

DE
Baron 4.63
Batty 4.78
Burch 4.68
Diggs 4.61
Downs 4.73
Hassanein 4.78
Jackson 4.68
Joyner 4.61
Kennard 4.73
Martin 4.88
Pearce Jr. 4.47
Powell-Ryland 4.70
Roberts 4.78
Sorrell 4.68
Stewart 4.59
Umanmielen 4.72
Walker 4.69
Disappointing times for the most part. Remember, Sam Williams ran a 4.46 at the combine. Even if he lost a step he would still run with all these guys except Pearce, and I bet Williams is a better run defender on the Edge than Pearce.

But later in the draft there are a few guys worth a look. Batty, Diggs, Jackson, Sorrell and Walker look like decent options in various rounds outside the first.

LBs
Asante 4.48
Bassa 4.64
Bruener 4.59
Buchanan 4.61
Campbell 4.52
Echols 4.74
Higgins 4.82
James 4.69
Knight Jr. 4.58
Martin 4.53
Martin-Scott 4.63
Mauigoa 4.61
Medrano 4.46
Mondon Jr. 4.58
Oliver 4.56
Paul Jr. 4.63
Stutsman 4.52
Bassa and Buchanan caught my eye Knight also stood out. Knight and Bass both got some good reviews at the senior bowl. I don't know if the Cowboys will have an opportunity to get Stutsman or Campbell. One of them might be there at 44, but I can see Dallas having better options at that point in the draft.

DT
Akingbesote 5.10
Alexander 4.96
Biggers 5.09
Black 5.39
Brinson 5.10
Caldwell 5.17
Farmer 5.12
Gregory 5.15
Harmon 4.95
Harrison-Hunte 4.87
Ingram-Dawkins 4.86
Jackson 5.25
Peebles 4.95
Pegues 5.16
Robinson 4.83
Simmons 5.38
Stackhouse 5.16
Tafuna 5.04
West 4.95
There are 5 guys on this list I would be happy with, and there are a few more who did not run the 40 that looked good also. This is why I think this is a defensive draft for Dallas. Take 3 DTs, 2 Edge guys and 2 LBs. The other 3 can be used for Offense if the right players are available. Out of this draft they can possibly get 4 or 5 defensive players to contribute right away.

Deone Walker was my pet cat earlier this year. But watching him, not now. You cannot bring yourself to look your best at the combine, what does that say about you?

I really like the idea of bringing in a big DE like Burch. I think he can be a Chris Canty type.
I agree, though I am not necessarily sold on Burch. But One of their big problems is outside containment and a big run stopping DE with some pass rush ability would be fine too. Kneeland is supposedly good against the run, or was coming out of college.

Jam Caldwell is my new Pet Cat for NT/1T - he’s good very good quicks of the snap for someone that is 330+. Plus, the natural power. A much better compliment to our soon-to-be overpaid 3T than Mazi has shown.

annoying that Tet McMillan isn't running and Colston Loveland is rehabbing.

I know Jeanty isn't participating. Any other skill positions deferring to pro day?

He led DTs in pressures last year…what?
He does get a ton of pressures, but struggles to finish. This is something he is going to have to develop on the next level. Had a great showing, where Nolen who was rising by the media might have fallen based on the bad character reports that we are hearing.

That is the issue I see with him, struggles to finish. They must get better on the NFL level.
that is why pressures is not as important a stat as some think.
the top QBs like Mahomes deal with pressure a lot better than those like Danny Dimes and others. The top QBs you have to do more than pressure; you have to put them on the ground or so be in their face constantly to really get them to play bad. Just making them move which is what a pressure is, will not work that well with the best QBs

pressures are still important as they force the QB to move off his spot, where others can clean up.

Bench press results are in.

The highest total for the DTs is 29 by Jordan Phillips, which is not especially. good. Darius Alexander, Eric Gregory, Ty Robinsons had 28 reps.

Mason Graham had 24 and Kenneth Grant had 22. NFL.com only has 9 DTs with bench press results.

The DEs actually look pretty strong. Ethan Downs had 32 reps. Mike Green, Sean Martin, Barryn Sorrell had 28 reps. 15 DEs are listed with results.

For the LBs, Teddye Buchanan had 26 reps, along with Nick martin. Demetrius Knight had 22, 3 had 21 and 1 20. This also looks like a strong group although only 7 participated it looks like.

Darius Alexander, Barryn Sorrell Teddye Buchanan and Demetrius Knight had strong combines I think. I like Buchanan and Knight a lot in the mid rounds. Sorrell too. And these LBs are also known for instincts and leadership on the field. I still think this is a strong defensive draft. The safeties are going to add to that thought.
