Caleb Downs is considered one of the best safety prospects to ever enter the NFL draft.

You should be thrilled to see him doing this, because it helps solidify his case as an elite prospect at a position we have needed help at for years.

I am thrilled. I'm sure he's going to be a good player for us. See post #18.

There’s a reason endzone fades are low percentage plays.

They’re very hard plays to have the timing right on

Ain't no pleasing some of ya'll. I gently question the offensive execution while giving the rookie credit and some of ya act like I've committed a felony.

If ya wanna get serious about it, everyone misses an opportunity sometimes. BUT players who consider themselves amongst the best would be livid that a rookie got around the pick and still broke it up. Troy & Michael would run that back.

Agreed but will you ever get a better situation than that to complete it? The play worked. You kept the defender from having a free run.

The teams with good secondaries are gonna force you to make that play (& others like it) if you wanna beat them.

For real?? Believe me if it was the other way around and Downs got beat every time, people would be bashing the selection of Downs as shameful.

You want to see both the offense and defense winning practice reps. That's why they practice, after all.

I agree .... but most reps there is a winner & a loser wouldn't you agree? On this rep, the rookie beat everything. The pick, the pass & the attempted catch. Shouldn't the QB & receiver be a little embarrased that a rookie shut down a play that should have worked?

There are also plays where Lamb and Dak completely beat Downs. This is what you want to see from your first round pick that had so much hype surrounding him. If Downs can shut down Lamb than I feel totally confident putting him out there week one against Malik Nabers.

And one specific play does not make Downs an all-pro nor does one specific play mean Dak and Lamb need to be "embarrassed".

After all it is just one play in a training camp practice.

That's fair but I still contend that a lot of vets would feel like they shoulda won that rep.

That it may be an early sign of how he will defend against other quarterback/wide receiver duos and slot himself squarely into actual, in-season, Defensive Rookie of the Year discussion.
