Comeback doesn't happen if Escobar catches the onside kick

What's it going to be then, eh?

I guess this will be the topic of the week that gets way too much discussion, much like the meaningless Harris penalty last week.

So he was an epic fail on the onsides. Don't care as he is basically irrelevant most of the time.

Did he take his eyes off the ball? Looks like the ball hit him in the forearms.

yeah it was a real lazy attempt on his part to field that onside kick

Personally believe that if Escobar had caught that onside kick that hit him right in the hands, the (near)comeback never happens.

You are probably right.

Wanna guess what we are working a little extra on in the next 10 days?

When I look at Escobar, I see a player with zero confidence. He still looks like a raw rookie out there. He has ability, but looks totally unsure of himself out there. I had hoped that it was just rookie jitters, but I still see it.

Trying to figure out if this thread is serious. There's a giant deductive leap to conclude that if the Bears don't recover an onside kick then they don't score a second quick touchdown to make the score closer?

I guess folks were anticipating the first play pick six from Romo if Dallas had taken over near midfield?

yawn...

Escobar is not our normal hands guy.
They use Witten and Dez in that role.
We were up so big they were using back ups.
Escobar has great hands but it's a little different grabbing a ball that's been onside kicked while 10 dudes race at you to decapitate you.

He failed badly but it also was likely his first every attempt.

He was open all night as an outside threat getting into seams.
He's doing just fine.

When you are ahead of a team by 28 points and they can onside kick it every time and go for it on 4th and 7 they tend to score some points.
The game was never within 10 points and when we needed some fire to finish they got it done easily.

The same people crying because it got close (tho still double digit) were wanting Romo out in the 3rd quarter. lol.
Just enjoy the win.

I wasn't trying to stir the pot, just thought that had he made that catch it would have basically put the game away, instead of a few unnecessary tense moments. Really hope he gets it together, Witten isn't going to be around forever, and sure don't want another Bennett situation, where we had a guy with tons of talent but was too busy playing than concentrating on football until he was gone.

Maybe it doesn't.

But that doesn't matter because he didn't catch the onside and we nearly did let them comeback.

But he's hardly the only person to blame for allowing that.

Some bad offensive play when we could have scored a couple more TD's late to put the game away. They just got a little sloppy offensively after otherwise playing very well.

The defense plays plenty of problem here because they became lazy, they became complacent, and they pretty much allowed the Bears to start doing whatever they wanted to.

This team needs to learn to have the killer instinct. To put the pedal down and to not get off it till the 60 minutes are completely gone.

And if the Bears kick it deep after they cut it to ten then they have a better chance of actually completing the come back. They didn't, game over.

Escobar screwed up on that play. He is not supposed to jump up and try and catch the ball. He is supposed to go block and Witten was behind him to go catch the ball. What Escobar did is a cardinal sin on that play because when you jump like that, there is a high percentage of not catching it and the ball can go anywhere from there. That's means the whole play breaks down. Not only that but the guy he was supposed to block came through free and recovered the ball. Perfect example how one guy not doing their job kills the whole play.

All that is on the coaches. You want to put backups in at least let them practice and know what they are supposed to do. It's irresponsible to put players on the field when they are not prepared no matter the score.

If you watch the play, Escobar was supposed block and let Witten catch the ball. Witten was right behind him ready to catch the ball when Escobar jumped up and try to catch ball.
