Commanders | Albert Haynesworth has muscle condition
Comment (0) Sun, 22 Aug 2010 14:37:33 -0400 Washington Commanders DT Albert Haynesworth (illness) has been diagnosed with rhabdomyolysis, a condition that causes the rapid breakdown of skeletal muscle because of injury to muscle tissue, reports The Washington Post's Jason Reid and Rick Maese, citing three people familiar with the situation. Haynesworth was able to play in the team's preseason game Saturday, Aug. 21, which means he has likely recovered from the condition, according to experts. However, those experts warn that if Haynesworth was suffering from rhabdomyolsis, he might not have been in the proper shape to participate in the team's training camp. Haynesworth lashed out after the team's game Saturday, saying the Commanders are underplaying the severity of the medical condition that caused him to sit out practices.

This is bull****. If he had Rhabdo, he wasn't practicing or playing. If he had Rhabdo, he's in the hospital.

Nah, man, he had rhabdo, I'm sure, although he didn't necessarily get it very bad. It just means he was really out of shape. No surprise there.
I'm not sure what he's complaining about though... does he want his organization to make a big deal out of the fact that he was so out of shape that his muscle tissue started dying as he ran sprints? Of course, he could also be on statins since he's so fat, which might be part of the problem. But anyway, I don't get his issue with the Skins. But I can't say I'm really sad that he's still stirring up trouble for their team. :)

I am unaware that it comes in degrees that can be minor. The only times I have encountered it is propofol-induced rhabdo, which will kill you. I know a similar effect can occur as a result of PEDs.

I'm unaware of "minor" rhabdo.

Mike Shanahan Not Taking Albert Haynesworth's Excuses

http://nfl.fanhouse.com/2010/08/22/mike-shanahan-not-taking-albert-haynesworths-excuses/

ASHBURN, Va. -- Albert Haynesworth had his say on Saturday night after the Washington Commanders 23-3 preseason loss to the Baltimore Ravens, informing all that the team was holding it against him that he did not participate in "their offseason program" and that the Commanders were underplaying his injuries in describing them only as headaches.

On Sunday afternoon, Commanders coach Mike Shanahan had his say.

"One thing for sure that is clear to me is that Albert has gotten away in the past with playing without practicing,'' Shanahan said. "That will not happen under this regime. If he's going to play, he's going to practice, and that is the same with every player here. The days of him playing without practicing are over. And that, to me, says it all.''

And as far as the condition that Haynesworth is reported to possibly have -- rhabdomyolysis -- that concerns muscle fiber damage? Shanahan said: "Not aware of that.''

Shanahan continues to use Haynesworth as his Gomer Pyle. And this will continue until Haynesworth pays the team back 21 million dollars and is thusly released or he conforms to the new regime.

Clinton Portis quickly conformed after spending 2 years not practicing but playing on Sunday (while being out of shape).

Amid a report by NFL.com that Commanders defensive lineman Albert Haynesworth is possibly suffering from rhabdomyolysis, a medical source said if this is Haynesworth’s claim, “It’s kind of bogus.”

“If he had this, he wouldn’t have played last night,” the source said. “You don’t have a mild case of this. It’s acute and needs to be treated with fluids and meds.”

Good luck getting that money. He can claim he's hurt and there's not much they can do. My guess is Snyder is down with this treatment to get his money back, but once it becomes obvious that they can't force it, he'll want Shanny to lay off to get something out of his investment.

And as soon as Snyder tries to meddle, Shanny will go back to collecting Pat Bowlen's money and waiting for Wade to get fired

Yeah, it does come in degrees. It is a problem most typically encountered by your "weekend warriors" and victims of crushing injuries. In the case of a guy who was publically out of shape and then put through a rigorous test of stamina, there's not much doubt about why he got it. It would almost be surprising if he didn't have some muscle breakdown (which is really all it is). It can be pretty bad... I'm just saying that I'm not sure Fat Albert understands that this problem came from him being out of shape, so it doesn't make much sense for him to wish that the Commanders had publicized it.

You're right though, rhabdo from anesthetics and neuroleptics is an emergency, and there are lots of other ways to get it.

Cute that you think Snyder has suddenly become a hands off guy after decades of micro-managing everything he's had his hands in.

Can Shanny collect Bowlen's money now that he's with the Skins?

IIRC, most HC contracts stipulate that when the HC is fired, he can collect the money from his former team unless he gets another HC job with another team (and that makes sense).

I remember years ago when Dom Capers was fired from Carolina, but before he was with Houston he was still a top HC candidate, but I think New England was looking at him as the HC, but were going to pay him less than what he made in Carolina, so that's why Capers stayed as D-Coordinator for the Jaguars until he couldn't get anymore money from his old Carolina contract.

I honestly don't think Shanny can collect money from Bowlen anymore. And I give Snyder about a year before he starts getting involved, unless the Skins have a lot of success early on.

Before all this fuss happened over the weekend, I heard Shefter on ESPN Radio podcast tell a host that he doesn't know when or how but this Haynesworth issues is going to end badly. This was the first time I had heard this from Shefter. He has a close relationship with Shannahan. I think this was a clear sign that he isn't going to fit into Shannahan's plans

Shefter didn't need to have close ties to Shanny to figure that out. It's been well documented that throughout Shanny's HC career that if you got on his bad side, you're getting cut and it's going to end badly.

Yeah but that was the first time I heard that comment from Shefter. He has been sprouting the company line that AH would not be traded during the draft time, that he would be playing DL, etc.

It just perked my ears up that he said he doesn't know when or how but this was going to end badly.
