Unbelievable they are going to guarantee him that money in 2016

The article failed to mention its is only guaranteed if he is injured. From a different article covering it... "The $16.2 million is guaranteed for injury only, meaning Washington could release Griffin prior to the start of the 2016 league year without any salary cap ramifications."

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/1...se-robert-griffin-iii-162m-option-2016-season

That said, it is kind of hard to believe they did that. The rate he is going the last couple of seasons, if he plays he will play himself into that injury guarantee. That and even if he does develop some next season it is hard to believe it will be enough to make him a $16 million QB in 2016.

They just need to cut bait. He is never going to be an NFL QB

Those injury guarantee contract tend to make players soft, a small scratch on the arm might put a player on the IR list.

Good situation for the skins ha ha. They really had no choice here, and as the article in today's lamenting story on this in the Express says, they arrived at a fork in the road (cut/keep) with two dead ends...neither choice figuring to end with a happy resolution for either the team or the player... ...he will make only $3.27 million this season. And whether the team cut or kept him, he would still count $6.2 million against the cap this year.

Why would we have no choice? Make the kid earn his money before picking up the option, no?

What I mean is that cap-wise, they really didn't have a choice. They are out $6.2 million of cap room whether he stays or goes. If he sucks after a game or two, you bench him, and cut him probably after the season with no financial penalty.

Originally I thought he was guaranteed 16.2 for 2016, but that's only if he's injured, after last season I'm suprised he's still on their roster at all.

But, but, but they traded way up in the draft for him! :lmao::lmao2::laugh:

Well, technical they didn't trade that far up (from 6 up to 2), but they sure gave a buttload to get there...three 1's and a 2. That's the crazy part. :lmao2:

Anyone remember when they extended Donovan Mcnabb...only to cut him later?
