Commanders put franchise tag on Orakpo

This was a mistake, a big one IMO. I was hoping we'd let him test the FA market and see that his demands were too high, and re-sign back here for a good contract. Instead, we've effectively cut a third of our cap space away and gives us less room to fill many glaring holes in our roster.

This is the argument that makes me scratch my head. We have so many holes on our roster--but we want to create a bigger one by allowing Rak to leave? I understand it's a big number, but that is the most important position in a 3-4--that rush linebacker.

I'm glad they franchised him--I am looking forward to seeing how he is used. He only rushed the passer about 79% of the time. By comparison, Tamba Hali had 1.5 more sacks on approx. 150 more rushes...

I don't think letting Rak go into the FA market, and potentially leave, creates that big of a problem. Rob Jackson is not Orakpo, but he also isn't a bum either. Rak may have a better sack per rush ratio than alot of players, but that doesn't excuse him disappearing for long stretches of a game. Last season, I was getting worried when Rak would get a sack in the first quarter, because that normally meant we wouldn't hear his name for the rest of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I want him back. Just not at the price he thinks he's worth.

The difference between the tag and what the market would have paid is at most 3Mill. So if you were willing to pay the market price then 3mil isn't going to fill a whole lot of other holes, and this way you didn't open a different whole in one of the few strengths of our defensive groupings; Rak, Kerrigan, Jackson.

SPOT on....he's your version of Anthony Spencer. VERY good player when healthy, but in the end not worth all the money, drama and headaches.

Orak is much better than spencer though.

If Orak left, he leaves a pretty big hole on a defense that already isn't very good.

Except when they play us, they seem to play much better. Fletcher is leaving or retired now right?

Yes, Fletcher is done. Can't remember if he officially retired or not.

Snyder continues to make idiotic decisions in the background with Allen as his figurehead.
