The Ravens seemed well ahead of the Commanders on both offense and defense...although Williams seemed to follow his M.O. of mixing in some subs on defense as starters.
Ramsey looked very poor. He still showed his penchant for holding onto the ball too long...he took too long to make decisions when guys were wide open, and didn't throw until he saw them standing there, and was inconsistent with his accuracy.
The very first play on 7 on 7, Ray Lewis showed why he's the best in the game, and why Ramsey needs lots of work. With no DL in front of him, Ramsey stared at Cooley as he ran down the seam...Ray followed Ramsey's eyes, cut in front of Cooley, and made the INT.
There is no excuse for Ramsey not seeing the MLB with no DL in front of you. It's these plays that still make me question Ramsey's ability to see the field.
The first two plays of 11 on 11 summed up Ramsey's day well...on the first play, Patten was wide open in between two zones, but Ramsey, even though he was looking in Patten's direction the whole play, failed to see him until it was too late, and lobbed the ball over Patten's head.
The next play, Moss was wide open on an out pattern, but Ramsey again waited too long and overthrew him.
Ramsey also seems to have a bad habit of patting the ball before he throws. I never really noticed it before...maybe it was just a quirk today...but that's a really bad habit to get into, as it took him a while to get rid of the ball.
He made two nice throws for TDs at the end of 7 on 7 drills...but overall he didn't look ready to lead the offense.
Boller looked much crisper than Ramsey. It jsut seemed as though Ramsey was playing in slow motion...hard to descibe...but almost like he wasn't playing quick enough for the game.
Other notes:
- Ade Jimoh got toasted for, you guessed it, a long TD. Not even Confucious would be able to explain the significance of Ade playing defense for an NFL team.
- Tupa punted exceptionally well. In general, the Commanders special teams looked very good... #32 blocked a punt.
- Chandler will get cut. Hall's kicks showed both accuracy and leg strangth on field goals and kickoffs, respectively.
- Brunell, didn't look great, but he looked better than Ramsey, even though he was going against mostly 2nd stringers.
- Campbell looked OK considering he was playing with the future truck drivers of America. He managed the only TD for the Skins in 11 on 11 drills.
- Holdman looked atrocious when he was at MLB. He was badly beaten in coverage by a TE twice down the seam.
- Sean Taylor, as usual, stood out both in coverage and in run support. On one play in the end zone, he arrived just in time to knock a ball out of the WRs hands. On another, he came up against the run as quick as you'll ever see a safety come up, and he drilled the RB.
- In general, the Ravens looked like the better team out there...a little crisper, especially on offense.
- The Commanders really, really, really need LaVar out there. Holdman is a notch below Marshall as on OLB...he just didn't seem to have the quickness Williams likes.
- It was hot as nutz out there.
- Gibbs still has a lot of work to do with the offense. A lot. The Ravens are a great defensive team, so it's always a good test, and obviously they weren't gameplanning...but the offense looked uncoordinated, sloppy, and, well, uncrisp.
