One of my fears is that the Commanders would smarten up and get a true #1 WR to pair with what they have.

With this news and the idea they might franchise Cousins, the good news keeps coming.

Garcon and Desean are two very good #2 WRs. Yeah, we could use a true #1 WR, but it isn't imperative to build a winner. Our offense showed last season when Desean and Jordan Reed are on the field the offense is hard to stop. The main issue is the defense, or lack thereof. They address the defense through the draft and free agency and we'll be just fine. The only thing that should be addressed on offense is the interior OL and adding another RB.

Are you implying the smart thing for the Commanders to do is to dump one of those 2 and pay a high priced free agent or add a true #1 WR to Garcon and Desean? Because keeping Desean and Garcon will not prevent the Commanders from drafting a true #1 WR if there is one available when they are picking. Any #1 WR free agent will cost significantly more than what they already have penciled in for next year, especially if you count dead cap money owed to the guy you think should be let go. The Commanders already have too much of the salary cap tied up by the WR position anyway. I think they are actually doing the smart thing and allowing those 2 to play out the last year of their contract and then reassess the situation next year.

Here is to hoping they mean what they say.

Oh, we anticipate that our two starting WRs are on the roster. The roster is set. We need to draft for immediate need.

Washington getting a quality WR prospect would transform a pretty moribund offense.

A true number 1 would be incredible to add with DJax/Pierre/Crowder/Reed.

However I agree with NIB that improving the D is even more critical. Rodgers and Lacy whipped that D in the playoff game, and as we saw in the playoffs, if you have any hope of advancing you need at minimum a top 15 D, which the Commanders are still far away from.

GMSM has an excellent track record with picks on D, so here is hoping that is the next step of the plan.

FYI- GMSM would have drafted Cooper had he fallen to 5 last year. So a true number 1 being available would be added

I actually think Jackson could be a #1 WR and an effective one at that. The problem is that he gets injured and mentally he gets taken out of too many games, too easily. But, he certainly scares D-Coordinators and changes the complexion of a game.

Skins need a vastly improved running game and a better pass rush. (well they need that the most, I should say)

You can score points throwing to Jackson, Garcon, Reed and Crowder.

If you don't think franchising Cousins is a good idea, what difference does it make who the Commanders have at WR?

Dude Snyder needs to build a mentality where players come here to bleed and fight for the honor of the Commander tradition. Not to overpaid!

You have to overpay on QBs. No other position but QB is it accepted. And I don't think players or agents think the Commanders are the team where you can cash in and relax anymore. That hasn't been the case here since Bruce Allen was hired and Cerrato was fired.

I wouldn't call an offense that was 10th in points scored moribund. Could it improve? Absolutely, we need a running game. But let's stop exaggerating, shall we?

Yeah, I agree with this but in this stage of his career I don't think he'll ever take that step. He's a really good weapon that opens up the passing game. Every third game he really kills a defense on a couple of deep passes, he'd be a #1 if he could do that weekly.

Its all about culture and atmosphere. If Snyder, Allen, and Gruden collaborate - you take players who come in through the draft and free agency, and require them to lay on their stomachs and kiss the rings of Joe Gibbs. Make them pledge via blood oath unabiding loyalty to bringing back the tradition and honor of the Commander name. This includes not being greedy and taking an exhobitant amount of money. You build a culture that goes against the trend of the rest of the NFL.
