Ok, but when the first day of transactions comes around, other teams are spending on needs (in the gourmet aisle) we are mentioning saving clearing CAP SPACE, I suppose the reasonable question from the fans is....saving for what and why publicize it now?
And just how many teams that splurge on FA the 1st day, how has that helped them? I don't see too many teams winning a SB because of it.
The teams that won, already had teams in place, with a top QB. The exception maybe the Rams in 2021. However that was 90% because they made a bold trade and got Stafford. Who played great, even though he threw a lot of INT's.
They went out and signed a few other players, yes, but look what happened in 2022.
KC is there because they have the best QB in the NFL as well as great coaching.
Bengals made it to the SB and AFCCG the last 2 seasons...Joe Burrow / Chase and others, good coaching and a good defense as well. They signed mostly their own players back, and tried to fix the OL with players like Collins. Other than that no big splashes in FA.
Eagles last season got many players through trades, mixed with some FA's, which many are FA's this year. We will see what happens there.
My point is it may help a few teams with some other luck, but signing top FA's on day 1, does not make a team have success. most don't. They need more.
Could be it takes those teams a few years to see the results though as well. Jaguars spent big on 3 FA's last year, as it took half way through the season to see it, however, 90% of that success was their #1 pick at QB was finally coming around and playing better.
Dallas has some talent. I know that is a joke...we have talent, we like ours guys, blah blah, however it comes down to a top QB. We have not seen that in Dak. Maybe with the right combination, that happens this season. I'm not expecting it, but will be fun to see with the new plays.
