Why are we the only team when we restructure a players deal it's said by the media that "this doesn't mean this was done to acquire money to sign new players"? I mean what else were we supposed to do with the new added money??

This baffles me, are we just supposed to hold on to the money, and save it for a team bowling event?? Please give your thoughts...

Who says it is the media, I have not seen that stated the way the OP did.
I seen the opposite, Was this done to be active in FA?

What the OP stated is more like what you see in this forum.

Probably just to re-sign their own such as Wilson, LVE, etc...

Cowboys FA is very predictable.
And there is nothing really wrong with that.
Maybe Wagner over LVE, but it comes down to where they each fit into long term plans as well.

You know if Wagner signs elsewhere for a huge contract, it will be the same old things from the same old posters (good and bad). Regardless of whatever went on in negotiations we find know nothing about.

To a point, no there isn't. Don't need to sign the "top" free agents, but at the same time they put most of their eggs in the draft to acquire talent, which would be better if they had multiple firsts or 3-4 picks in day 2.
But, it seems like the team has hit a plateau of what they can accomplish building primarily through the draft. Ever since the Carr signing they have gone cheap in FA with Romo and Dak, and now we are closing in on a decade with their plan and they have 3 playoff wins to show for it. There's always one weakness that the team didn't address that gets exposed in the playoffs.
I don't know if it's a scouting issue, or something where they don't want to overpay for outside talent. But the issue along the years is that they then blow that money by overpaying their own and not really getting a great ROI on most.

Managing fan expectation......they fear the fanbase getting excited, if we do and the usual happens then Jerry will be needed for another media circuit of "Spin the News".

Alternatively, it's the FO trying to downplay the CAP Space as this may jeopardize negotiations....."But Jerry you said you cant pay my client because you've no Cap Space".

Alternatively, it's pre-determined spin to offset criticism when we dont spend ....Jerry-"as you can see, we had the space available, however, we couldnt get anything happening".

Ok, but when the first day of transactions comes around, other teams are spending on needs (in the gourmet aisle) we are mentioning saving clearing CAP SPACE, I suppose the reasonable question from the fans is....saving for what and why publicize it now?

And just how many teams that splurge on FA the 1st day, how has that helped them? I don't see too many teams winning a SB because of it.
The teams that won, already had teams in place, with a top QB. The exception maybe the Rams in 2021. However that was 90% because they made a bold trade and got Stafford. Who played great, even though he threw a lot of INT's.

They went out and signed a few other players, yes, but look what happened in 2022.
KC is there because they have the best QB in the NFL as well as great coaching.
Bengals made it to the SB and AFCCG the last 2 seasons...Joe Burrow / Chase and others, good coaching and a good defense as well. They signed mostly their own players back, and tried to fix the OL with players like Collins. Other than that no big splashes in FA.

Eagles last season got many players through trades, mixed with some FA's, which many are FA's this year. We will see what happens there.
My point is it may help a few teams with some other luck, but signing top FA's on day 1, does not make a team have success. most don't. They need more.

Could be it takes those teams a few years to see the results though as well. Jaguars spent big on 3 FA's last year, as it took half way through the season to see it, however, 90% of that success was their #1 pick at QB was finally coming around and playing better.

Dallas has some talent. I know that is a joke...we have talent, we like ours guys, blah blah, however it comes down to a top QB. We have not seen that in Dak. Maybe with the right combination, that happens this season. I'm not expecting it, but will be fun to see with the new plays.

Fine and as longer view point you're taking a very pragmatic (dare say frugal approach), and there's nothing wrong with that. However, on purely a publicity basis declaring a restructure on what's in effect the first day of Free Agency, is at best misreading the room.

It's not the act, it's the timing.

Flexibility. You can always roll any unspent cap space into the next year

And we do this seemingly every season… and for what, because it’s certainly a system that isn’t working for us.

Don't confuse me giving facts with someone who agrees with what we are doing...
