Post here if you know of some common misinformation about a musical artist. I'll go first. One false belief is this:

Bon Scott was AC/DC's original singer.

Not true. Their first singer was Dave Evans. The band did not have the massive success with Evans that they had with Bon Scott and later with Brian Johnson. With Dave Evans they did record at least one song (Can I sit next to you, girl), and they performed live with him. However, they never recorded an album with him, and they didn't become a household name with him. You can find a video of the band performing "Can I sit next to you, girl" with Dave Evans. His style was very glam rock, which didn't fit AC/DC's grittiness. He wasn't a bad singer. He just wasn't a good fit for that band. Bon Scott was actually their limo driver at one point. I'm not sure of the details of the ousting of Evans and then the hiring of Scott. Maybe they figured out that their chauffeur could sing and then went with him.

Your turn. Post any misconceptions that you know about.

Lynyrd Skynyrd got their name from a high school teacher, Leonard Skinner, who suspended students for having long hair.
Yes, that's something that's true, but the question is about misconceptions about musical artists, in other words, things that are believed to be true, but are actually false. I've got another one:

"Gene Simmons uses cow's blood for his blood-spitting routine." Not true. It's some kind of concoction using red food coloring and some other ingredients, but there's no real blood of any kind.

One misconception I had about AC/DC for years is I thought they were a British band instead of Australian.

I thought of one:
"Frank Zappa ate [caca] onstage."

Did not happen. I've substituted the French word what was supposedly eaten so as not to be gross. You can probably easily guess. If not, and you must know, look up the word.

In that same vein, Ozzy never really bit the head off a bat...it was a dove, and not onstage, but at a meeting.
