Not only are they delayed for a year but lets be real...... a 3rd Round Comp is really a 4th Round pick

3 Rounds = 96 picks
a 3rd Round Comp is 97 at best...... 104 at worst
When you look at the trade chart pick 104 is in the 4th round...... delayed for a year takes another half of its value away......

So it really is worth a 5th Round pick today

Teams(wink wink DAL) should not plan their whole FA strategy around Comp Picks
NE is getting all this credit for getting two 3rd Round Comps but they lost starting LT Trent Brown and starting RDE Trey Flowers..... they can afford to be cheap because they just won ...... again

But DAL hasn't won squat and we need to stop planning for a Dynasty and just try to win #6 before we all shuffle off this mortal coil

New England does deserve credit for how they have manipulated the comp pick system because
1. It shows they don't over pay or over value their own good players
2. It allows them in turn to manoeuvre around the draft board stockpiling future picks.
3. They win SuperBowls

I'm glad we moved on from Hitchens. He gets us a good pick in this year's draft. Worth it.

In most cases you are going to lose a former draft pick to get a comp pick back. We spent a 4th on Hitchens, got a 4th back. If Jones walks, we may get a 3rd back for a former 1st round pick. These are players you had plans on being the young core of your team, and now you have the replace them with middling picks. And you have to hand cuff yourself to do it

When you examine their moves most are losses

They win because of Brady and Belichick and a walk over AFC East

Guys they give/trade away like Revis, Talib, CJones, JCollins, LMankins, WWelker, NSolder, LBlount, MButler continue to play well for their new teams...we will see with JimmyG

Save cap space by not resigning mid level players to big contracts. Keeps the team young. More roles of the dice in the crap shoot that is the draft is better. Dak was taken with a comp pick.

The team is on the upswing. Lets keep doing what we've been doing.

All depends on how well you draft.

Richard Sherman was a 5th round pick. Josh Norman was a 5th round pick. Antonio Brown was a 6th. Etc.
That is besides the point

Comp picks are mostly late round gambles

A 3rd is really an early 4th is really a 5th a year later

Comp 6th and 7ths aren't even lottery picks.... they are practically useless

We have been sitting out FA for years and what good has it done

One lucky Comp pick in 10 years

even BCarr is still starting 32 games in a row for BAL..... was he really that bad that we gave up FA forever

We have the cash to get out bad contracts quicker than most teams but we never use our cash as an advantage

Keeping in mind that the Pats’ FO (read: Bill Belichick) has demonstrated, over the past @20 seasons, a bit better grasp of talent-evaluation than has our own “organization” — which is why they compete every season and have gone 6-9 in SB appearances over that span.

Yeah Dak was a horrendous compensatory pick!!

Yeah, that 4th Rd Comp pick that landed Dak Prescott really sucks:rolleyes:
You should buy scratch offs for a job and see how that works for you

Our 4th round Comp Pick this year is #136 that is worth 37 points and we waited a year to get it

Last year it was worth 1/2 of that we when we earned it for Hitchens.... its real value is a mid 6th round pick or #180 (19 pts)

We have a younger and more talented core than we have had in ages. The defense is young and on the rise. If Dak plays next season like the second half of last season then we should compete for a first round bye in the NFC.

In this draft there will be starting caliber DT/S/TE available with our 2nd and 3rd round picks. Plus the FA market is flooded with Safeties.

Play it cool. Value FAs. Let the draft come to you. We have been fortunate for a couple years now that our needs fell to us perfectly in the draft. It looks like it will happen again.

Free draft picks are overrated?

Hot take there.
They aren't free chachi..... that is the point

You are losing a valuable player that has to be replaced and you can't replace them in FA or you lose the Comp Picks

It is not something to celebrate..... it is a small consolation prize

We missed a lot of Draft picks but no one ever suggested skipping out on the Draft

Yet we made one marginal FA signing (Carr) and the team gives up on FA forever and tries to sell the fan base on Comp Picks........ WAKE UP

They are just being cheap..... we are one of 4 teams UNDER the 89% Cash Spending FLoor

I agree and disagree. They are more valuable then ever in the fact that you can trade them now which is huge.

They are free if you're aware of the formula. The Draft is a crapshoot. Having more picks is a great thing. More picks = more lotto tickets.

The Cowboys had two 4th rounders in 2016. With their original 4th rounder they took Charles Tapper. With the 2nd 4th rounder (comp pick), thanks to having an extra lotto ticket, they took Dak and now have a franchise QB.

The Patriots had an extra lotto ticket in the 2000 draft in the 6th round thanks to a compensatory pick. They got a guy you might've heard of.

Tom Brady.
