What will our Comps look like this year? Jones was a starting HB who is doing okay in Seattle and Reeves is starting for the Texans. I could be wrong but I believe we lost like 4 players right? We should get at least a 3rd for Jones... What else do you think we will get?

5th for Reeves (thanks to his over paid contract), and a 6th for Jones (signed for peanuts).

Either way, I'll take'em. You just never know what steals you can get with those extra picks. Remember when we used one of our comp picks on Larry Allen?

Does anyone know how Reeves is doing in Houston?

I am greedy so I would even be happy even with a 7th rounder :D. Adam posted this on another thread regarding comp picks.

"Compensatory picks are based on the player's contract, playing time and postseason honors. The contract is by far the most important factor, followed by playing time, with postseason honors being a very small factor.

Reeves signed for more money than Jones and has started every game. If he continues to start, we should get a fifth for Reeves. It'll be difficult for the pick for Julius to be anything other than a sixth, especially considering that he shares time at running back."

So lets say we win the superbowl... We would go into the draft with 12 picks most of them coming from BAD teams?
We won't have a 1st because of the Roy trade but it would be 32 anyway and that really just makes it a high 2nd a high 4th and a high 7th. But in return we got Roy and a high 7th... So really we would have given up a #2 and a #4.... I am cool with that. Considering we would still have 12 more picks. lol

Ferg was traded, no comp for him.

We lost (in FA), Nate Jones, Keith Davis, Jacques Reeves, and Julius Jones.

Only Reeves and Jones will warrant any comp pick.

ok, most likely the cowboys wont have a high 2nd rounder, so what jerry jones might do is package one of the 4th rounders to move up higher in the 2nd round to get a pretty decent player;

Now, lets think about what the cowboys need next year, WR no, OT or OG yes, a big need, linebacker yes, Burnett keeps getting hurt and Carpenter is doing the job, possible safety maybe, Fullback possibly because anderson keeps getting hurt, and maybe a defensive linemen if spears isnt resigned, also a good young backup QB, brad johnson is getting older and older; thats 6 need positions;

Now, how many draft picks will the cowboys have next year, 11 picks,

So, lets go from there, possibly using a 4th or 5th rounder to move up higher in the 2nd round, there is no way in same hill the cowboys would give up their 2nd, 3rd, and 2 4th rounders to move into the first round, would cost too much;

So, move up into 2nd round higher, that still leaves you with a 3rd, and 4th, and 3 fifth rounders but one of them would be a compensation pick that you cant trade. Now, the cowboys dont have a 5th rounder in 2010 due to the Holland trade, so i see jerry jones trying to recoup that 5th rounder with one of those 5th rounders this year, , so that cuts the draft picks, using a 4th to move up and a 5th to recoup a 5th rounder in 2010. That leaves the cowboys with 8 picks, but still having a 3rd, 4th and 2 5th rounders. Then, you could package the 6th, and 7th to move up in 5th or 6th round to get another good player. That should give the Cowboys at least 4-6 good players in the draft next year, thats what the cowboys need next year, quality players, not quanity.

Now, only way like i said i dont see how in the sam hill the cowboys would give away their 2nd, 3rd and 2 4th round picks to move up into 1st round, i just dont see it happening.

Yet, the Cowboys stil can get 4 to 6 quality player in next years draft, maybe one more key free agent or two. That would load the Cowboys up for super bowl runs for 5-7 years and championships.

A fifth-rounder in 2009 is worth a fourth-rounder in 2010.

DL would be our biggest need - Canty and Tank most likely would be gone.

Isn't it a 6th rounder in 2010? Doesn't it go down as the years go up?

Also, aren't we due a Comp pick for Nate Jones? Or did he not make a 53 man squad?

Someone mentioned one for Jason Ferguson. We traded Fergy, he was not a UFA, therefore we wouldn't get a Comp pick for him.

No, you pay a higher price to get a player sooner. If the draft was today, would you trade your first-round pick for a second-round pick next year? Of course not. But you might trade your second-rounder for a first-round pick next year. Time equals value.

He signed for only $725,000 per season. I don't think he'll play enough this season to make his comp value enough to qualify for the equation.

You know the more and more I think abot the Roy Williams trade the more I like it.

1. Pull some coverage from T.O
2. Pull some pass rushes off of Tony
3. 8 In the box will not happen as much
4. If anything were to happen to Owens
5. Owens' eventual replacement
6. If we go as far as this team thinks they will the picks will be VERY late picks anyway
7. We will have like 11 picks anyway.

Don't you mean Larry Brown? :confused: And was the league awarding compensatory picks way back then?
