Comp Picks?

Oh goodie. Cant wait for us to draft a former great prospect at LB with a bad knee in the second round. Sean Lee, Bruce Carter and Jaylon Smith worked out so good for us.

Cowboys Current Draft Picks 2021
1 - Cowboys
2 - Cowboys
3 - Cowboys
3 - Comp Pick (Byron Jones)
4 - Cowboys
4 - Comp Pick (Robert Quinn)
5 - Comp Pick (Randall Cobb)
6 - Cowboys
6 - Lions Pick (Everson Griffen, could move to a 5 depending on playing time)
6 - Comp Pick (Jason Witten)

5 was traded to move up for Tyler Biadasz last year. 7 was traded for Michael Bennett last year.

WOW and if we get a Top 5 pick due to sucking and we trade back to someone wanting a QB, we could have some serious ammo to replenish the defense.. Granted we could pick some jackballs and do nothing as well.

Projected compensatory picks: One apiece in Rounds 3, 4, 5 and 6.

Key free-agent losses:Byron Jones (Dolphins), Robert Quinn (Bears), Randall Cobb (Texans), Maliek Collins (Raiders).

More on OTC - Looks like they never updated Gerald McCoys release, that should make Maliek Collins count as a 6th round comp pick.

Right as 3 of those 6 would be used for some player they could get as an UDFA. Well under Garrett anyway. They did do good on day 3 last year. But prefer they use those to move up to day 2.
Still need quality over quantity. If they are to get some good future starters.
I got a comp question
A player cut now that’s is picked up by another team
How does that effect comps

Does getting rid of Griffin, Poe and Worley help us get more comp picks, or is that set in stone once they were signed?
No, it doesn't. The Cowboys were already at the max number of comp picks (4). A team can recoup a comp pick by releasing a free-agent acquisition in-season before he counts against the formula (e.g., Deonte Thompson a few years ago), but that doesn't apply here.

It doesn’t unless that player was a FA signed. So if we cut a player that was signed during the FA period that qualified against comp pick formula. and release him then ot effects that teams comp picks, possibly.

So of the Bears decide to relates Quinn we will lose that 3rd or 4th round comp pick. If the Dolphins release Jones, same thing depending on other players lost.

right now we get nothing for Witten, but that may figure to get a 7th round if Quinnor Jomes were to be released.
Max a team can get is 4 picks, even is they lose 8 players.

there are, I think 32 or 36 comp picks total the players with the top contracts are eligible to get picks from those teams.
So if player 30 gets released, the 37 th player now becomes the 36th player

this is why I never count comp picks until that deadline passes which I think is 10 games.

Worley, Poe, Griffen never counted against any company pick.

if that holds up, we will get to draft "Mr. Irrelevant"

I'm sure Jerry can't wait to sell that
