Friends of the silver and blue, I have sat down and compared the Pewter Pirates, position by position, with those teams I consider to be tops in the NFC Conference. Bear with me, much information will be following below.
Quarterbacks
Christopher Simms vs. Drewford Bledsoe
Simms now has the keys to one of the most high potented offensive attacks in the NFL League to Coach Jon Gruden. Gruden has taken the younger Simms under his wing and has delicately fed insight to the youngster throughout his career. Simms has adequate height and size to play the position of QB. He has struggled in the area of special teams but with the heavy load and responsibilty of being the QB on one of the most visible franchises on the planet, the coaching staff should take one step at a time.
I'll be honest with you here. Bledsoe's teeth are getting a little long. Parcells has always liked older QB's so that profile fits Bledsoe to a tea. Through his travels of both college and now the NFL League, Bledsoe has never been afraid to take a hit. He stands strong in the pocket and he almost dares people to tackle him. The Canadian is one tough hombre since he decides never to run even when the opportunity presents itself. He'd rather take one for the team than scamper for a 30 yard gain. This tough griddiness doesn't come around often. Cowboys fans should be happy, satisfied, and glad that Bledsoe lines up under center.
Advantage: Push
Running Back
Carnell "Cadillac" Williams vs. Julius Jones
Cadillac is already in the Hall of Fame. Yes, I said it. The man's shoes were enshrined last season for running for the most yards ever in a game by a rookie from Auburn. Williams deserved all acclimates thrown his way because of his work ethic, running style, and dedication to working during the week...not just on Sundays. The HOF'er is a monster and could take carries away from Pittman if the cookies fall just right. Look out NFL League...
Somebody needs to tell Julius that the league is a full 16 game season, not 8. You would figure with all of the bowflex machines, sports creames, chiropractors, trainers, etc. that Jones could at least make one little full season. The guy has talent. I watched him beat up on Florida State while at UVA and then run all over the Bears on Thanksgiving. The kid has the tools as well as the makeup to be successful.
Advantage: Williams
More to Come...
