Comparing Williams To Micah Parsons?

I'm excited to see Williams. I touted him for that second round pick for a while and knew that's what it would take to get him. Kind of like T. Smith S. Williams is a traits guy. He's got everything including the stats to justify the pick. That said it's going to be a tough transition for him because of the weird 3-2-6 defense Ole Miss played. The Rebels essentially wanted to play 3 down linemen with two 1T and one 3T, two linebackers an ON-LB and and OFF-LB (Williams), and 6 DB including a rover. The defensive scheme is simply to stop the spread offense and isn't much different than the dime but it replaces an outside LB with a safety/LB hybrid.

Good in theory but Ole Miss didn't have the personnel up front and and ran out a 6'3" 305 and 6'2" 295 1T next to a 6'3" 255 3T. Williams who played the OFF-LB out weighed their 3T by ten pounds and it showed. Ole Miss including Williams got the ball ran down their throats! Fortunately for Williams they were smart enough to see his pass rush ability and were able to constantly put him in good matchups. He's not going to get all those good matchups in the NFL, but he's also not going to have the contain responsibilities involved in playing behind a 3 man undersized front.

I'm excited to see him come in as a DPR in year one and hope he can continue to develop from there. Smith and Williams are the type of high trait guys you want on your team that have a high ceiling and can develop into so much more.

There is more to getting to the QB than closing speed. Micah gets off blocks easily and usually takes correct angles. Those things are just as important.

LOL. Nice! Williams is only a 10th of a second slower despite being an inch taller & 20lbs. heavier than Micah. His athleticism is impressive. This could well be a double headed monster. Can only imagine when Damone Clark joins them. OUCH for those opponents lol.

Closing speed for Micah is probably the best in the NFL. I can honestly say I have never seen anything like it. Micah's acceleration just before he gets to the QB reminds of Barry Sanders first step after he stops on a dime and immediately gets back to full speed.

Watch Dee Williams on tape he certainly not in that same category as Micah but I would not be surprised if he got more than 6 sacks this season. Which would actually be an upgrade

What a tough comparison. Parsons looks like a generational talent. I would sign up for Williams being really good. Parsons did things his rookie year that few could do.

All I know is that when I watched Micah at Penn State, he looked like he was moving at a different speed than anyone else on the field. Now we say that some times… but Parsons actually did look like he was at a different speed. It was incredible.

Williams doesn’t look like that when I watch his games. He looks fast and can run QB’s down, but his play speed isn’t so starkly different than everybody else’s.

Their 40 times might be close… but how they play on the field isn’t. Micah is a freak, for real.

Having said that, I like Williams a lot and think he will find a lot of success as a designated pass rusher this season. He has good size, strength and his athleticism is very good.

Im excited to see him, Parsons and Lawrence on third and long.

Greg’s was on a tear last year and than got hurt and it cooled him down. After all that he only had 6 sacks. Williams should be able to produce that in a limited role IMO.

I don't think De (Sam) Williams' speed is an issue in any way, shape or form. What he seems to need the most is to get accustomed to using his hands correctly to cause balance disruption for the OTs he'll be facing. I feel sure he'll be put on a strict weightlifting regimen to augment his strength enough to improve his abilities to disrupt his opposition even more effectively than he would now.

I expect William's speed to get him off to a good start in TC. That, alone, should be enough to ensure his initial success. His strength and hand placement will favor him even more in due time, with Dan Quinn right there for him to make him a better player.

As far as Micah Parsons compares to Williams, I think he'll need more development to arrive at Parsons' level, but the raw talent is there to help his cause in that respect.

that play against Herbert where he just erased like 8 yards between them was insane.

Hoping any rookie you bring in is going to have the rookie season Micah had is asking for disappointment. Micah had an unbelievable rookie season. Once in a generation kind of rookie season. Expecting that out of a guy drafted late in the second round seems like a pipe dream.

Do I hope he does? YEP! Having two guys like that on your defense changes things....changes everything.

Yeah, it will be disappointing if he has a Gregory career. We will see in training camp. Nobody saw Parsons as this devastating pass rusher until we started hearing practice reports.

He's the 56th pick, so on-field production like Gregory is a fair expectation, without all the suspensions hopefully. It would be great, though, if he outperformed Gregory's production. But I'm trying to be rational.

We can hope for a rookie year like Olujari's with the Giants (50th pick, 8 sacks), but it might be more like Carlos Basham Jr. (61st, 2 1/2 sacks). The previous year, four DEs were taken in the second round. Only two had more than six sacks their first two seasons (with 6 1/2 the best).
