in theory the team can contend with a real head coach. dlaw seems like a necessity for at least the playoffs.

the draft is set up to use top picks for areas that could be improved from investment:
1. dt - especially if someone falls like simmons due to injury or the typical dts falling
2. s - conflicting needs in dt/de/s.
3. rb2 - could likely make significant improvement here with 3rd round or 4th round pick
given fo mentality, beyond dl and s, they will like to draft for next year's fa in s, lb and c/g.

offense - every position seems same or improved. wr, a significant question mark last, is now a strength. ol could be significantly improved
qb - better from experience and weapons that match skill set
rb - same with potential to be better with improved rb2 from draft, fa or trade
fb - same
wr - huge improvement - full year of cooper, gallup with full year of experience and offseason, cobb roughly cancels out beas loss
te - slight improvement - jarwin with 1-year experience, schultz stronger and some experience, rico ever going to play? is witten subtraction by addition? going to draft a te in strong te year?
oc - could be enormous improvement if tfred is back
og - significant improvement if williams is stronger
ot - similar or better after offseason away from bad ol coach

defense - the big question is dlaw. could be 1 step lower or even 1/2 step better.
dl - the #1 question for 2019. if draft goes well and dlaw is resigned, could be an improvement. if dlaw is out 2-3 months, can the dl do the job well enough?
lb - somewhat better and could be heart of defense. lve no longer better.
cb - similar to last year
s - same or better depending on the fa s and if a decent s is drafted.

special team
k - a big question mark last year is probably adequate
p - need a new punter
ls - same
