Will compensatory picks work any differently in 2010 than they usually do?

Good question.

I don't see why not since they're not getting rid of free agency..

It is irrelevant to the Cowboys no matter what. We will not be receiving any Compensatory picks in the 2010 Draft. We also do not have a 5th round pick.

We did not lose enough players through Free Agency whose salaries would even qualify us to receive the picks.

And that's ok. We still have plenty of young kids from last year that will need time. Also, we'll have more money to sign future Pro Bowl free agents after the draft. :)

I don't think we will be big players in Free Agency.

I hope not. I hate big $ free agent acquisition.

If I'm remembering the rules right we almost can't be big players in FA This year. I would swear they added some restrictions based on where you finished, and I thought making the playoffs limited what we could do, though not as much as getting one of the byes.

I do too. They think they are the difference, not a part of a solution.

Agreed. That's why I want Wade to stay. His FA acquisitions last season were cheap and have made this ball club better. Sensabaugh/Brooking and the belief in Jenkins as a #2 and Spencer are borderline genius. We cut the fat and imo, are resembling a team destined for great things. I hope for everyone's sake Wade wins a playoff game this year.

As much as I credit Wade for some of the FAs we brought in (his guys) I also credit Jerry for restraining his usual tendency to want to make a big splash with some big names or reaches in the draft. Cutting Owens & Ellis were key to helping make this a TEAM rather than simply a group of individuals all wearing the same uniforms.

The less Jerry acts like Jerry the better. :starspin

I believe Stephen Jones was a big reason for that.

Unless a new agreement is signed we may not be able to much of anything in Free Agency. Making the playoffs and if we win a game it gets worse on what we are allowed to do the rules going in place also hurt guys like Austin he no longer is a FA because it goes from 5 years to 6 years

I agree 100% with you. I like what we did this past year. Build with youth and then add just a couple of veteran free agents with character (brooking, olshansky). Hopefully, we continue this trend. It seems to have worked quite well.

Ugh ... I guess I didn't explain it well enough. Notice I said "after the draft". I meant signing undrafted free agents such as Tony Romo and Miles Austin.

I agree with everyone else that I don't see us being big players in free agency except to resign our own players.

I did. Graham will probably be re-signed unless Green Bay grabs him. Look for Folk or Mason Crosby to be brought in and there to be a kicking duel. Folk would like to redeem himself and come back. The teams would love to give him another chance.

I am going to hope Buehler learns to kick FGs. I only want one Kicker on the team.

What is ironic, maybe the Cowboys should use all their actual picks on offensive linemen, and then go for receivers, and a quarterback in non-drafted free agents.

I want ILB Rolando McClain of Alabama more than any other pick we could get. He is the only player I would trade up to get. There are very few holes. Just make smart selections and don't try to get cute.
