I have lived in the middle of Seahawk country for the last 8 years. I hear this word every time Pete Carol opens his mouth. It's the reason they have succeeded so much with him being the HC. He's created an environment of great competition at so many positions. Even if you look at the early days of Russell Wilson. The GM had brought in Matt Flynn and everyone assumed he would start. Pete decided to create competition at the spot, and the rest is history.

I really believe we are starting to see that in some spots for Dallas. It's been a forced situation with the DL because of injury and suspension. But now at DB, RB, LB, WR, and even for the swing OL spot. Completion makes everyone better. It makes everyone fight for a spot, and for playing time. It also brings chemistry became everyone is fighting together for the purpose of making the team better.

Nothing should be promised to any player if someone is better or performs better during completion. We all want the same result, and you know the Team does as well. I hope JG keeps things going this way, it will only make the Boys better in the long run...

Jimmy Johnson had all sorts of competition too. But then along came FA, so it's hard to do now.

One of the things Dwayne Harris said after he got to Giants camp was that he liked it a lot more because at Cowboys camp it was a constant competition. They set guys up to compete with each other for spots, against other positions etc... He said he much preferred the nicer environment at Giants practice. I took that as a compliment to our staff.

Seattle succeeded because they struck "gold" with a RB Buffalo didn't want, found a gem of a QB in the 3rd round and knocked it out of the park in finding secondary folks.

haha

I bet Dwayne also liked that New York paid him in just signing bonus alone (4 mil) nearly 2x more than he made in total contract in Dallas in 4 years.
And his total contract (17.5 mil) is > 8 times more.
That's "nicer" too.

I don't believe anyone should be given a job. Even your best players must be challenged and called out. Man I miss the coaches of days past...I guess I better come to terms that we are in a different era.

But yet every single one those guys say that they always had to fight in practice to play in next weeks game. Interesting

I can't imagine that if Marshawn Lynch had a bad week at practice he would have been relegated to backup status the following Sunday. Even if they did have the great Christine Michael competing for his spot.

Of course it wouldn't happen...

It's like this ALL NFL teams have competition– to a point.

And once the season starts?

Forget it.

"Competition" goes out the window for the most part.

After listening to Pete Carol for so many years I'm convinced of two things– that he's a very good coach and he's full of BS like most coaches... Some for affect and some for their own mindset.

I think the one player who is going to be highly motivated more so than usual this season is...

Tony Romo.

Tony's best attribute is his competitiveness and there's nothing like a kick in your complacency to get the juices flowing. He's going to hear all the nonsense from stupid fans and stupidier media about a QB controversy and you can bet his first INT will draw a smattering of boos, not necessarily at him but because Dak is lurking.

I think Tony's out to show everybody he's still that man and that's going to be great for the Cowboys.

Agreed, on Lynch

The great CM is about to win the starting spot this year though

I know and it pisses me off. We wasted a pick getting him, he sucked here to the point we released him, then he went back there and by all accounts is doing great.
