I'm a believe coaching matters.

Probably most important as they have direct input on the types of players they want. The Eagles defense didn't gel until they named Fangio as the DC who also brought in Parker as the passing game coordinator.

Right now this defense is worse than it was at the end of last year.

I disagree.

I think it improved dramatically as soon as they fired the defensive coordinator.
