Dallas trades completely out of the first round picking up two extra seconds and two thirds.

They then call Shawn Alexander - who is on Jerry's speed dial - and pass on any type of corner they could acquire in the first.

Let's say they trade with the Falcons and Jets.

With three second round picks they take:

Ray Rice - RB - Rutgers - Falcon's pick.

James Hardy - WR - Indiana - Jet's pick.

Charles Godfrey - CB - Iowa - Cowboy's pick.

Three third round picks.

Ahtyba Rubin - DT - Iowa St. - Atlanta pick.

Kory Lichtensteiger - C - Bowling Green Jet's pick.

Tom Zbikowski - S - Notre Dame Dallas pick.

Is this a projectile vomiting day?

Or did Dallas come away with players that can help?

Not enough for two first round picks. Two third round picks for #28 does not cut it.

Phil that would be a second and third for each.

It doesn't sound terrible, but it really doesn't sound great either IMO. It may be because I just don't know enough about Godfrey or some other reason. I like the Zibikowski pick. The Shaun Alexander part.... pass.

Just, Meh.

Cannot evaluate with the info at hand. If we are passing on Stewart/Jenkins at 22 or Cason at 28 then I hate it.

Otherwise I want to trade down regardless. I despise Rice at 34.

Very true.

We arent in a rebuilding mode here. One or two impact players @ needed positions we are right there.

Not sure about the players you selected, but I'm all for trading down. Ton of talent and depth in rounds 2 and 3 for our positions of need.

If the so-called experts agree this draft's first round talent tails off before our first pick at 22, and the second tier is deep. This may be a better plan.

Now let me states I hate trading down for any reason. This is just mixing it up while time passes until we pick tomorrow.

But that plan does fill a great deal of needas for back-up talent that can someday start.

Especially the DT and center position.

I would trade out of round 1 completely only if it meant I could get Roy Williams from Detroit at #22 and Atlanta's 34 or 37 in the 2nd round and their 3rd round pick for 28.

I wouldn't be interested in Shaun Alexander.

I would take a CB, RB, and S in the 2nd round, in that order. A combination of Cason or Flowers, Rice or Charles and Demps would be ideal.

I agree with Rampage and others; Dallas doesn't really need that many draft picks, because there just isn't many spots open on the team. Last year was a draft "for the future." This year, I think Dallas has to draft higher quality players to help churn the middle/bottom of the roster, rather than having a fire sale to procure many draft selections and overhaul it (re: KC/ATL).

That having been said, if there is significantly higher value offered as part of a trade down, it would be foolish not to accept it. And I certainly wouldn't be opposed dropping 1 or 2 slots at either selection (22 or 28) to recoup the 4th lost in the Pacman trade.

Projectile vomit day.

Any scenario that brings Alexander to dallas makes me want to throw up.

Didn't you hear Jerry say that when he drafted for backups in the mid 90's, that he now knows he would have been better of using picks to "bundle" up and take fewer players for more quality and less quantity?

We need a few difference makers... not a roster full of maybe's.

This scenario looks like someone has too many "pet cats" and just can't decide on who to take.

"Oh! I know! Let's trade back for as many mid range picks as possible! That way I can tinker with all my favorite players on my very own homemade roster!"

Jesus.

of trading out of the 1st rd. entirely IF..

you would add a QB somewhere in those 2nd and 3rd rd. picks as I think this team is just completely committing hare kari with relying on Brad Johnson to replace Romo if he goes down for any length of time.

In fact, I think if we don't fix the backup QB role now, we could be stroking ourselves about actually being a SB contending team.

If Brad Johnson has to play any length of time as the starter in 2008, we are dead in trying to get to the playoffs.

Period.

End of season.

When we had our SB teams of 92-95..we always had a very capable backup ready to play if needed.

While we continue to stockpile talent at DB, RB and WR along with the LBer hemmorage we are experiencing.,

..we are thin as glass at the most important position on the entire team..QB.

Take a decent guy and get him learning just in case.

Yes, get more picks and let's address a multitude of position issues.
