My wife's computer freezes any time a video from any site starts to play. It just started yesterday. Any ideas would be helpful.

How old is the computer?

Maybe the video board needs to be replaced?

Can she play saved video files, if she have saved any?

So many things it could be.

She might need to update her adobe flash player program.

She might need to see if there are updates for the video drivers.

If she just did a recent windows update, one of the updates might have messed up the existing video drivers.

Since it just started yesterday...my guess would be that a video driver got messed up. She might be able to go to windows update...click on the custom option (may take a few minutes to load), click on the hardware optional tab on the left and see if there are any drivers she can update.

If it is the video card (whether a stand alone card or onboard) chances are she would would have trouble with her monitor and not just the videos...now that is not 100% but still a good chance.

Yeah, failing to run updates on your computer will make it all jacked up.

Maybe that could fix it...

What ever operating system you use...keep it up to date with downloads.

Maintence...

Excellent suggestions.

What OS is she running? My guess is XP or Vista and memory is probably a huge issue.

You should upgrade to WIN7 and solve your problem. :)

Check this link first. It's the UG Advisor from MS. Just run it on your PC and it will tell you if you are OBIE-KABIE to upgrade to WIN7.

Which has been updated a lot of times so far this year. All good suggestions you gave. That'd be my starting point.

Which web browser is she using? Did it update recently? Sometimes updates can cause problems. I've had problems with Firefox after an update a few times over the years.

...and then do a defrag. Sounds like the hard drive is like swiss cheese.

Were any programs added to the pc when this happened? Might try system restore if your feeling frisky but only go back a day or 2.
Other then that i would say you need to upgrade your adobe player but that has already been suggested.

If you do have any toolbars such as google or yahoo installed, I recommend uninstalling them, then reinstalling them if you prefer to keep them. I've had similar issues 2 or 3 times over the years with the Google toolbar, and a simple uninstall, restart, reinstall worked like a charm.

Also, I forgot to ask earlier, are you getting any error messages?

Is there another account on the computer?

If yes, do is also freeze up when viewing videos from that 2nd account?

If there is no 2nd account, can you create on?

Then try watching videos from that 2nd account.

I've seen where a problem may occur on one account but not the other.

Definitely sounds like a software issue.

Has she tried other browsers? I started having TONS of problems with Firefox when viewing Flash videos online, ever since I switched to Chrome, everything has worked just fine.

When you say freeze, do you mean it freezes up and needs to be restarted or does the browser need to be closed?

Are the freezes specific to the embedded video or to the system as a whole?

What browser is being used?
