Concerns Playing Against Denver Are...

I have a concern playing against Denver whom run a Zone Blocking scheme. One of their techinques that they use in their Zone Blocking scheme is the conserversial "Cut Block".

This technique IMO is very dangerous because the offensive line is allowed to "Cut Block" a defender at the knees. Cut Blocks are illegal only in the open field and when a player is engaged by another offensive player.

A few years ago, Denver's center Tom Nalen used the Cut Block technique against the Chargers Igor Olshansky on a Spike play - an attempt to quickly snap the ball and stop the clock by throwing an incomplete pass. Olshansky retaliated and was ejected from the game.

With that said, I have concern that one of the Cowboys could get hurt because of the Cut Block. I would hope that Wade and Hudson Houck will have them prepared for this type of scheme. I would hate to somebody go down because of this dangerous block.

Are you guys concerned as well?

I wasn't concerned about that until you mentioned it, thanks!

but I am looking forward to our backs running rough-shod, even Alonzo Coleman, over their group of Dlinemen, it's a pretty bad group

Sorry my friend!!! But.... it has to be something to think about. We do play a couple of teams that run the Zone Blocking scheme.

IMO, I wish the NFL would ban the block or at least modify it, making the teams that Cut Block, to only cut at the waist, not at the knees.

This technique is about as dangerous as the "Horse Collar".

unfortunately, we're the only team that would have to run that blocking scheme and hurt a player, for the league to seriously consider making a ruling

But even then, we would be the only team they called the penalty on. How many horsecollar penalties have you seen outside of RW last year?

I think I've seen maybe 2

I don't think many people use the horescollar other than Roy, because he's used to being the biggest and baddest in the secondary

Phillips, being the old SD Defensive cooridinator, I am sure is VERY familiar with Denver.

Maybe the Cowboys should announce that we moving to a zone blocking scheme cause we believe our OL could execute the "cut block" very effectively. Bet you that within days the NFL rules committee would announce the "cut block" is to dangerous and outlaw it because too many athletes could have their careers ended. They would name it after Flozel Adams but privately it would be known as the "stop Dallas" rule.

+1

I'm sure they'll stick to the preseason code of ethics though :laugh2:

I've only seen it called once or twice against other players too, and I agree that Roy is more prone to do it, but consider. It was called on him twice and we've only seen it called elsewhere maybe 4 times combined? And that's assuming we were watching different games. I've seen it committed more times than that, but not called.

Here's what concerns me about playing the Broncos...

Remember when we played them last year in the preseason? We ran a lot of different blitzes at them since we needed the work, and the Broncos were pretty upset about it afterwards.

John Lynch said we broke an "unwritten rule" about not going all out in preseason.

Of course, their complaints were absurd. But if they still harbor those feelings about the Cowboys, they won't exactly "go easy" on us Saturday night. Hopefully there's no injuries... I expect a physical game.

2nd....

They are type dirty always going for the knees and stuff that should be banned or something.

The Broncos claim that we blitzed them was ridiculous. The Cowboys aren't blitzing when Ware and/or Ellis are coming; it's what OLBers do in the 34 just like what DE do in the 43. Lynch was a big crybaby cause we blow them out and showed them just how bad they really were. Yes, I do expect payback this year but it also possible Wade & Shanahan will redo the code of ethics just like last year so everybody understands everything.

I wouldn't be too worried about it. Cut blocking isn't used in preseason or exhibitions. It would be considered one of the lowest things a team could do.

Cowboys will be practicing with Denver from most of the week I would think Dallas players will have a good ideal or what to expect

The rules last year in the practice with Denver was no cut blocking and no hitting the QB. I am sure it will be the same this year.

hey, quit stealing my complaints.

We have two weeks of this nonsense because houston also does this crap.

I have my fingers crossed for two weeks none of our lineman or linebackers get hurt.
