Conditional picks question?

I know this has already been addressed somewhere else but can someone explain to me how the conditional picks work. Just wondering because we seem to be losing a few players and haven't really signed anyone in free agency to replace them...even if that matters. What kind of picks would we get in next years draft for players like julius, k. davis, and so on. Does it depend on how they play next year? if anyone can explain this i would appreciate it.

You're asking 2 different things.

Conditional picks are picks that are traded for a player and go up if that player reaches performance incentives.

Compensatory picks are what are awarded for the Unrestricted Free Agents you lose in the Free Agency process. The picks we would be getting right now are from the 5th, 6th, and 7th round areas. It is based upon new contract and performance. The highest we'd be receiving might be a 5th for Julius.

...but they do allow more flexibility in trading our non-compensatory picks...and that is a good thing.
