Confession: I wanted the Cowboys to trade Dak for 2 firsts and a 2nd in March 2017

After Dak's ROTY season? Dak was considered top 10 at that point.

Not really...not according to people who really know the game (such as NFL GMs). It doesn’t matter that he won RoY...every GM knew Zeke deserved it. Every GM also knows you don’t part with 2 firsts and a 2nd for a QB whose offense finished 32nd in the NFL in pass attempts and 1st in rush attempts.

That said, that was the time when his value was highest. Probably could’ve gotten a 1st...great return for a 4th pick. But I doubt it would’ve been higher...not unless there was a GM out there interested in being fired

Then your next bet would be Tua.
System QB playing in the best system in college sports. Tagliavoa isn't going to be anything in the NFL. He's like a worse and lefty version of Mariota. Only thing I can think of is maybe he saves Kellen Moore's job because he's left handed.

That is not what I am seeing. I am an Alabama alum and watch every game. The kid is special. Maybe he wont be anyone if he wears the star on his helmet. However if he ends up on a well coached team, he will do well.

Yes. It's not about the support group. It's about the quarterback. Our QB is 2nd round talent drafted in the 4th round, so we got a good player. A very high quality backup. But we need to find a starter.
Tony Romo won 2 playoff games here. We aren't winning anything until the coaching staff changes.

Have to beware of thinking a player on a team loaded with talent and top coaching is himself great. Cooper was the 4th overall pick, but while he did pretty good in his first two years, he was no ODB. Other players have had fabulous college careers and were complete busts in the NFL, especially at quarterback.

But Tua, if he's smart, will stay in college for 4 years and polish his skills...

In hindsight I would have taken a 1st for him, still have Romo, draft Mahomes let him sit for a year (or play if Romo got hurt again).

No one would give up 2 1sts for Dak.

Correct, first of all, 23 touchdowns? 30 is the bare minimum teams would look for. Second, he had a great line and a great running back, most any quarterback would at do okay in that situation, maybe he did better than most would, but 2 firsts? Not nearly enough data for a team to offer that.

Maybe one first, or two seconds, but no way two firsts and a second, especially after Dallas ripped off the Vikings with the Walker trade, teams still ticked at the Cowboys for that...
