If Tony Romo is named starting QB at 12:30, like we expect he will be, I will be one who is happy. And I will continue to be happy even if we drop our next 3 on the road. I am not alone when I say that I am not one who wanted us to go to Romo because I believe he is going to take us to the Super Bowl this year, or even the playoffs. I really don't think he will.
But I'm an old time Cowboys fan who remembers the "good times" when even when we didn't make it to the Super Bowl, people always thought we genuinely had a chance to. The Dallas Cowboys aren't supposed to be hoping for 9-7 each year. We aren't supposed to be HOPING just to make the playoffs.
We are supposed to be a team that competes for the Super Bowl. You cannot do that without a great QB. Not year in and year out. Just can't do it. We never have.
When we were great there was Meredith, there was Staubach, there was White and there was Aikman.
Bledsoe represented nothing more than a hope to "get in to the playoffs." Nothing more. Romo may not even represent that yet. But then again, he may be the next guy in the line of those QB's I just named. Either way, it's time to find out.
And if he ISN'T the guy, then maybe we can finally put an end to "rent a QB" and "get a QB on the cheap", and finally DRAFT ONE AGAIN. While there are exceptions to every rule, that seems to be the best way to secure the future of your franchise, especially one with such a glorious past.
