Well, Ping has excellent customer service. They replaced my shaft and my grip.... for free.

Bad news is; it took them forever. Like...I think I've been without a driver for at least 3 weeks. Its not a problem bec. the home course I play on, realistically, there are 3 holes I can drive on....and really, only 2 that I should. Too many doglegs (which, admittedly, frustrates me when I have to hit an iron off the tee on a par. flipping. 5.)

Went to the driving range last night, because it felt like Christmas....getting my club back.

I only brought 3 clubs with me; 8 iron, 18* hybrid, and driver. I spent a majority of the time working on my 8 iron and my new swing (its getting close. real close).

I worked my way up to my hybrid and started taking good, rythmic swings and the results were good.

Then came driver.

And it went downhill.

I was swinging at maybe 50% of what I could, speed wise. I couldn't bear to swing faster; I was scared. Scared of breaking it. Even though the odds of it happening are probably akin to me winning the lottery; there is a mental handicap now I couldn't get over.

I was hitting my driver probably 200-210, straight. (Again, I say probably, because there is no 200 marker.....there is a 150 and 250 and it looked to be in the middle/slightly longer than middle of that).

So....what I've got, essentially, is a driver that hits straight....but shorter than my 3 Wood/18*hybrid and is about, distance wise, of what my 5 iron(if I am driving it 200) or 4 iron (if its a little longer) goes....

Awesome.

I gave up after awhile.

Went back to my hybrid.

And now....I am swinging that at about 50% too.

Sweet.

Mental block FTW!

I have no problems swing irons with "full" tempo. But it seems like I have imposed a mental block on all things graphite. Which is handy. Because I never need to hit driver and 18* hybrid again, right?

(And I am scared to see if this has the same effect on my 3 Wood. It shouldn't, I'd think...... its steel..... and its my "go-to" club).

So...has anyone ever gone through a similar mental block? How do I get out of it? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! I think what frusturates me the most is how in every other sport I've played, I was always mentally tough. But in golf, I'm not. I get so down on myself at times.

Oh and silverbear.......I wish you could see my putting the last month or so, particularly the last round. Epic! My putting this year has been really solid; even though I average low 30s in putts per 18.... (chipping/pitching has been my downfall, historically....but I've noticed a change in the winds recently. Its about to drop....)
