The team is in a position to know a lot more about the day to day situation of Cowboys players than we do. When Connor McGovern was drafted, I think most of us assumed that he was just too highly rated for the team to pass up on, and it was an embarrassment of riches for the offensive line. I think some of us anticipated us potentially letting Collins walk and Williams kicking out to OT.

Now that we have 4 games in the rear view mirror and Collins has been resigned the facts seem to be a lot different than perception. We first made sure McGovern was on the 53 before going to season ending IR, which leaves open the option of his return.

Collins has been resigned and arguably has been our BEST OL. That surely wasn’t anticipated by many.

Now Fred isn’t fully back to his all pro level, Martin is battling back issues and of course Tyron has been beat up for years. Maybe the Cowboys wanted some insurance and if so, good for them. On the other hand maybe the Cowboys were more concerned about the collective health of the OL than we knew.

Connor Williams has been the weak link and will probably continue to be other than due to health issues of the other OL mates. We haven’t seemed to be willing to flip Looney for a pick even though it’s clear he is a starter quality player and it is highly unlikely we will be able to keep him next year due to the cap.

Maybe the Cowboys were not buying insurance so much as planning for the inevitable. The Saints game may have indicated that was a possibility.

until we at least see him in a preseason game, not much to discuss. I always suspected we'd find a way to sign la'el Collins. you just don't let young, outstanding o-linemen walk. I think Williams has played well and will continue to improve. drafting him and McGovern were smart moves for the future.

Once that back becomes an issue it becomes a difficult season for a player and now we have two all pro players with compromised backs on the Oline. We discussed this earlier in the preseason and left the topic as the big elephant in the room. Collins is now our best Olineman and none of us saw that coming in august... I have my doubts we found a starter in the draft that picking that late.

"I see little to discuss about McGovern until he gives us something to talk about."

I expect that they had planned to move on from Collins during the draft, so they took McGovern with plans to move Williams to RT, but maybe they just saw in practice that Collins was too good to let go, particularly at the price they expected to bring him in at.

Back problems are scary things to deal with for any athlete, especially the linemen, who exert so much pressure on that area. I'm hoping our good physical sports therapists are able to work miracles with these guys. It'd be a shame if all of them aren't able to recover. Yikes! Let's hope for the best and keep our fingers crossed, in the meantime. ;)

How were they smart moves? I can't see a scenario where both are starting now that we resigned Collins. Was it smart to invest in two high rd picks if one of them can't get on the field? The Collins contract made the McGovern pick perplexing to me.

How do you have a discussion about a rookie who hasn't even been healthy enough to practice much less project him to be better than the current player? Hope McGovern turns out to be the next martin but right now he is all hype and zero substance.

I was also surprised Collins got a new deal - but that doesn't make McGovern a wasted pick. It's not like anyone you pick in the late 3rd is a lock to be a future starter. Olineman have a tendency to get hurt in the NFL... a lot. Having a guy like him as depth could make a huge difference in a playoff run over the next few years. We'll only know in hindsight.

This move was about replacing Looney whose deal is up this year. He's getting starter money somewhere so we needed a C-G.

If you don't think Looney's spot was worth a 3rd last year then you are as crazy as most of your posts suggest.

someone who hasn't practiced or payed yet EVER in the NFL doesnt belong in a conversation especially about replacing a starter..

way way too soon

Injuries can derail a season faster than Garrett's coaching. Especially on the offensive side of the ball:

QB. 1st

OL. 2nd

Skill positions. 3rd
