wow..I am somewhat surprised.

Our need for McGovern (if a need occurs) would likely be mid-season. So hopefully he is building lower body strength and studying in every O-Line meeting.

For early season, we have Looney and Fleming as solid backups. Su'a-Filo could fill in in a pinch. If a multi-game injury occurs (early) to our guards, I'd think seriously about moving Collins inside for 1/2 season and use Fleming over Su'a-Filo. Then, mid-season, we could learn if McGovern is good enough (yet) to enable Collins to move back outside.

We were 4-0 with Su’a Filo starting last year. We’re lucky to have him as a backup.

wow, just read so we may have a middle scenario:

"With appropriate management, most minor to moderate cases of a pectoral strain that have not been present for long can usually recover within a number of weeks. In more severe or chronic cases recovery can be a lengthy process and may take many weeks to months to achieve an optimal outcome. Those patients with a complete pectoral tear that requires surgery, usually require a period of rehabilitation of 3 – 9 months or longer before returning to full activity."

Aren’t you still trying to figure out if Jaylon is wearing a brace or not?

He has been out all off season as well as TC with a torn pectoral muscle.

i heard it was strained.. but not torn.
i think if it was torn, he'd definitely be out for the season. Be interesting to see what plans they have for him going into regular season,
53 roster count , PUP or short term IR ?

I don't have anything to add to this discussion except that I like his name. Reminds me of that other guy from Denver. :p

Anthony Brown is going to be the starter vs Giants, book it ! ..and who knows after that. i'm not hearing anything of note that Jones is practicing with the team and
that hip if it has had the setback that is being reported. then i imagine that team staff is going to really take their time and cautiously monitor that hip situation.
this is where we will get to see if Brown has improved enough to be trusted and depended upon to be the starter outside.

i think Jordan Lewis can handle the slot role but i would questioned him on the outside. - and who are the backups we'd have to depend if we need them ?
Olumba ? Goodwin ? Jackson ? With Byron out and Brown/Jordan asked to next man up - the depth situation gets a bit more iffy -suspect

He was probably lifting weights that would crush a mortals spine. I lifted a lot in college, and the weights the D1 good OLs throw around are absurd. A 3rd round pick with elite lower body measurables can probably lift a truck (I know that's not pec, but it implies he takes lifting seriously). He could walk into Penn States campus gym and immediately outlift every roided out college fratbro by 200 pounds. While eating a sandwich.

He was getting ready for the pros and strained it under like 400 pounds of weight, probably not going to be a few weeks of recovery. When you feel something go wrong under that kinda load, your mere mortal shell usually doesn't respond kindly.

He's probably just about recovered, that's why he's not going on PUP, they just don't want to aggravate it. Maybe it was a good lesson, don't get ahead of yourself, and use all the pro resources at your disposal with good form.

I was really looking forward to watching him this preseason, he could have used the reps, and the fact I think he's going to be really good. But, not putting him on PUP says it all, imo. He'll be back soon. He might get snaps with 1s if Martin gets vet rest days.

Don’t think he can go on PUP, as that needs to happen before TC I think, unless they changed the rules. It would have to be make the 53, then move him to IR. If they put him on IR now, after all this time he is out for the season.

Make the 53, then put on IR? That can't be right. Are you sure? So, if a guy has an exploded knee and you have a perfectly good player to put on the roster, you have to let them all go to put Mr. ExplodedKnee on the 53 and then designate IR? So you're scrounging for some extra player or calling up PS guys?

That would be the most insane logic. I think you can just designate IR and go about your business. We didn't put Wilson on the 53 last year did we? I don't think we did. And you can have 2 players come off IR during the season, I'm not sure of the specifics on that though. Everything is just vague, like just slap an IR and you can bring him back or not, but you can only bring back 2.

I don't think he'd go to IR anyway, hopefully not at least.

If you want them to be eligible to return during the season. Which is what some are calling short term IR, then they must be on the 53 man roster then moved to IR. Then the resign a released player to take his spot.

If a player has a blown knee and is expected to miss the entire year, then yes move them to IR before the roster cuts.

So what might happen in McGovern's case, if they think he can play in 6 weeks. Then release a player like a 9th DB, or even a player like Crawford where no team will claim him on waivers for his high pay. Then move McGovern to IR, as this is the only way he will be eligible to return. Then sign back that 9th or 10th DB or Crawford, or whoever.

And yes Wilson was on the IR before the 53 man roster so he was going to be out all year regardless.

I could swear Nate Newton said "hasn't shown up yet" when McGovern was brought up in the interview. Probably means nothing but.....
Maybe it does.
