this is a difficult topic because it is about our pro bowl lt tsmith.
last season, we were horrible when he was out.
he is back, but it appears he may be on a long term decline that is not so gradual.

everyone talks about connor williams' fast feet.
we all figured he would be one of the backups at lt.
however, does he have the talent to be a good lt?

tsmith appears to have lost at least a step due to his injuries.
perhaps a move to rt if williams is a good lt?

Wouldn’t say that yet. This whole O-Line and QB and RB pretty much took the preseason off. Let’s let them heat up first. I was hoping only about a quarter of last week game would look flat. This week should be better.

sure give it a couple weeks.
though his decline seems to be ongoing for last 2 seasons.

Agreed - and I think Tyron's struggles have been overexaggerated. The block in the back call was chincy and I don't think I've even seen the hold. It's not like he was getting whooped.

He's got the feet, but his arms are too short. He'd get destroyed on inside moved and by guys with good bend and burst. I think he's probably just as athletic as Tyron, but I see him more as a great RT than a guy playing LT dealing with elite pass rushers every snap.

If he has another season (and eventually he will) that he starts missing games. Then we need a replacement, he needs to have someone to rotate in and we need to spend a 1st round pick
to get another. I am not sure Williams will develope or not yet. He is getting pushed around pretty good. Wondering why they haven’t tried switching him with Collins yet. I can only assume they tried it and it failed?

LDEs are making a resurgence in pass rushing threats. It's no longer just the Left tackle facing the best pass rushers a majority of the snaps.

If Smiths back is shot, it's not like he'll face easier DEs at RT.

i think lde's tend be be larger, stronger and less of a speed rusher.
tsmith may be match up with that.

williams looked pretty good at lt in 2016-2017. think he was injured in 2017-2018 college season?

before 2016, tsmith would rarely get any penalties and rarely get beat.

Guess it just depends on the schedule.
Collins went through the ringer last year, having to go up against Miller, Mack, Bosa/Ingram, Houston, Graham etc.
But if his back is in pain, he either won't play or will play poorly.

Regardless, addressing the long term LT spot isn't the #1 priority, but it's not at the bottom.
