I see a ton of people thinking it's fake or a stunt/troll job. I for one believe it to be real. He just watched one of his friends die in an mma match.

Actually the guy who died was fighting against Connor's friend, but he was cageside and I imagine that it had to shake him anyway. I wouldn't be totally shocked if it's real, he's made a ton of money and he's got his health. I can't imagine a better time to get out

Dana said he refused an interview and pulled him from the card. Connor said he's done, some are speculating he wanted ten mil for the fight. Truth is probably somewhere between the two. Looks like he really will never defend that belt.

That mick is scared to do press conferences ( not scared to fight) after Diaz already took it to him. He wont have any trash talk to say for once.

This is about wanting more money to have to do these crazy media tours that interfere with the fighters training. I don't blame him for taking the stance he is taking but I think he probably should have made that stance before taking the fight and getting it advertised and everything.

That does become a problem for these fighters though. They become popular because they're winning fights and then all the sudden the UFC wants to disrupt all their training with tons and tons of needless interviews and crap.

He's not retired. He just said something stupid when angry.

Turns out he doesn't want to do the ridiculous media commitments he does every fight. Something no other fighter does because no one cares unless it's McGregor. For this one fight, he didn't want to do it. He feels it effected his fight preparation. The UFC told him no. That's when he said he retired.

This is a guy who brings in more money to the promotion than anybody by a lot. He takes short notice opponents without any complaint. Takes on Mendes at UFC 189 to save the card with a knee that's shredded. Does world tours, more media than anyone, and the UFC couldn't work with him here and keep him on the 200 card?

When I first heard the news and they said it was about money I sided with the UFC. Once this side came out I side with McGregor.

That card will get half the publicity and buy rate without him. He is that much of a needle mover.

What's funny is that UFC 200 with the Diaz McGregor rematch wouldn't need a whole lot of promotion. A ton of people would buy it anyway. Everyone who bought it the first time is almost sure to buy again to either see Diaz whoop McGregor again or see McGregor avenge his loss. Even minimal promotion would almost surely break the PPV record. So the UFC doesn't really need to create this media whirlwind for the fight at this point. It's a fight they don't need to sell. Even the hard core fans who wanted to see McGregor face either Aldo or (even better) Edgar will watch the fight against Diaz, if only to watch McGregor get sent back to the 'midget' division.
