I remember interviews with Witten from the 2017 season where he talked about the style of play the team had then notnkeaving any room for error. That looks to be exactly what happened last night with turn overs, drops, and penalties.
I'm not sure where this injection of Linehan came from, but that gameplan triggered some of my PTSD from previous seasons. Maybe they incorrectly tried to replicate the previous Saints gameplan thinking they could get conservative with the Saints having their backup QB in. The problem is, last year's Saints game is one where the Cowboys seemingly caught almost every break.
The intermediate stuff over the middle needed to be worked a lot more. That's where Jarwin had his big catch, and even with the Witten fumble and Cobb drop, the yards looked there to be had. I would have liked to see a lot of Jarwin repeatedly to see if they would back off some.
Maybe it was a weird week in the NFL. The Rams gave up 55 (!) at home to the Bucs, Mariota decided he can suddenly throw, the Lions gave the Chiefs all they could handle while breaking the Mahomes TD streak, and the Browns didn't look like the Browns against the Ravens defense.
Hopefully this game generates a little pressure to keep up the creative plays and aggressive play calling.
