I don't know a lot about him. Just released by Carolina. Opinions?

His former DC released him. That says a lot.

Have watched him obviously in college, but also focused on him somewhat during his time in NFL.

Great special teamer, poor safety.

Thanks for the info (and the civil response in contrast with other individuals). I only remembered his name and some interest coming from around the time he was drafted.

No prob. I try to stay away from the bashing that goes on in here.

He was a decent name coming out of college, but he just doesn't have the athleticism needed to start at safety in the NFL. Very hard worker though, and is smart as well. Just not what is needed on the back-end of an NFL defense, and I hate saying that since he's a former Hawkeye lol.

He is really bad. He might be the worst tackling safety in the league. I have never seen a player so willing to get run over.

Yeah he is poor.

I don't get it at all, as Ferentz is a coach who is one of the best teachers of tackling in college football. You'd think he would have had a good tackling foundation, but it has seemed to have eroded in his time in the NFL.

Exactly. He was very similar to Bob Sanders (albeit obviously not quite as good) coming out of Iowa. It seems as though his strengths in college became his weakness in the pros. Most likely do to his limited athletic ability.

I would say that is a very fair assumption and assessment.

Smart guy with limited talent. Great safety at Iowa but I guess he does not have the athletic ability to play in the pros.

If we were to go for a guy like this, I'd much rather take Quentin Demps.

Somebody on here used to have an awesome pic of Barber running over a bears player. Pretty sure it was Considine. Looked painful.

This!

Also, everyone thinking we are going to pick up a safety...we are not. JJ said this is the best our Safety position has looked since Woody was here.

That is a bold statement and one that was not smoke. JJ, for better or worse, is drinking the kool-aid at this position and is going with what we have.

Barring injury, of coarse.
