so you have contempt for Jerry Jones and the other owners, Goodell works for them...

actually, Goodell work for jerra. And Jerra is one of mein favorite persons in the world. We gift him a lot of fleck but his heart is in the right place in his chest just to the left of his solar plexaris.

Roger Goodell's contempt hearing is set for August 13th.

I'm not sure when the NFL's appeals hearing is, but this may certainly help the Cowboys and Greg Hardy if Doty finds Goodell and the NFL in contempt.

Why is this important? Because it will force Henderson to make a ruling on Peterson in a timetable that is is sooner rather than later. The precedent set in that ruling will impact any subsequent court case involving Hardy and the NFLPA against the NFL.

The question is, knowing that they'll probably be found in contempt, will the NFL simply do the right thing?

- Drop Adrian Peterson's suspension
- Drop or reduce Greg Hardy's suspension
- Withdraw their appeal from the 8th circuit

August 13th is now a key date in this drama.

Henderson will likely rule on Hardy before August 13th, and the NFLPA will likely file a suit against the NFL in behalf of Hardy immediately afterwards. It should be noted that Hardy was cited in the contempt motion filed by the NFLPA, meaning that Doty may also decide what to do with Hardy much earlier than any subsequent court case.

The NFL really dropped the ball by not requesting a stay, and instead simply ignoring Doty while they appealed. They did this because they believe the saying that it is better to seek forgiveness than to ask for permission. I don't think Doty will appreciate that the NFL basically said to hell with him.

The failure to seek a stay in this situation will also likely sink them with the appeals court. Which is why I think ultimately the NFL drops this before they are found in contempt. They will or at least should reduce Hardy's suspension to 2 games, and reinstate Peterson for 4 games in 2014, though I believe they can still fine him for the 3rd game (after the 2 game suspension). So they would owe him 3 game checks.

I think that is what is taking so long with regards to Henderson now. That being said if Henderson rules in the NFL's favor again, we can assume that my speculation here is wrong, and that they will try and go the distance.

I don't suppose Goodell can be suspended, I mean "exempt", without pay until the hearing...can he? :D

It'll be interesting to see how the NFL plays this. They know they aren't going to win, but are they relying on the general public to side with them against Doty? That is an interesting bet. Bias aside, I think being held in contempt will be embarrassing for them, and they'll be forced to do this anyways. I guess we'll see.
