What it means is you don't fire your head coach and start over after one good year and one horrible year. He deserves another year to make it work, especially with all the injuries and new guys Jerry introduced to the roster and locker room.
It does not mean more of the same. It means keeping a basic working structure and hoping for improvement before throwing it all away and starting over with a new 3-year plan. No head coach comes into any situation, even with a great team, and promises to be very successful the first year...it happens, but you'll never hear a coach talk about it. They all say it takes a few years to put their staff fully in place, indoctrinate all the players into the system and have them know the playbooks fully, and to get in more players that fit their system.
That's why Jerry does not want to fire a guy who went 13-3 last season but dropped to a pathetic 9-7 this season. The team showed vast improvement in year one and in hindsight, even the first round playoff loss at home in a very close game ended up being a loss to the SB champions, not the collapse it appeared on paper at the time. In year two, the defense showed great signs of improvement overall and especially in pressuring the QB. More RBs were found, and a talented WR added during the season. Injuries to the OL and a lack of chemistry (apparently) did the team in.
Now Jerry is going to give Wade the opportunity to have all these players through the offseason and to mold them into a winning team next season. If he and Garrett, along with the players, get it together and win at least one playoff game, they will probably continue. If they don't, they will probably be fired, continuity will be replaced by another hopeful group of coaches who present him with another 3 year plan.
