Contrary to Popular Belief, Gallup Had a Good Game in SD

He didn't rack up gawdy stats. But by making a point to target Gallup, a slithery, deceptive, possession target, they had to adjust. The teams that have beaten us have firstly bullied our #1 WR — and stymied our running game.

Sure, it goes without saying, we need to get better in the redzone. I would run 2 and 3TE sets when you get inside the 10. Just because, you're inside the 10. I still haven't understood McCarthy's redzone offensive calls. Even on 4th down calls. Early on. You just take the points and the lead. I'm pretty sure the refs punished him there, because they apparently wanted to keep it interesting for Monday Night Football.

Anyway, if they're going to focus on shutting down Lamb and Pollard, that's when you want to target Gallup, Cooks, and the TEs. And you have to scheme to make them pay. All of Gallup's drops worked in our favor. We were going to force it to him no matter what. I actually like that approach.
And it paid off, because eventually they had to adjust and that got our other playmakers open. For once, I'm looking at McCarthy's game, and I see brilliance whereas he was a dunce against San Fran.

What game in SD?
That's right. I meant to say LA. Strange to see the Chargers in LA, too. I used to go watch the Padres back when an old buddy of mine was with the team.

Good to see you around, RS.

(Feel free to correct, mods.)

Terrible game/first pass that was high near the end zone he very well
Could have caught as well if he had jumped at all

I'm gonna say what I said last August....our WR corp on the whole sucks! Bottom 5 in the entire league last year....still bottom 5 this year, only because we have ZERO threat at TE.

3catches on 10 targets. What wasn't working was the short passes, Gallup got zero separation. What did work was mid field 10, 15 yards down field where he could run a route to get open. Now Dak kinda overthrew him a bunch but he was open. Maybe switch Gallup and cook, let cook have some short routes to get open quick. Or just throw it to fergy or CD who is their best slant guy anyway.

I get your point about the Cowboys forcing the ball to Gallup, thus forcing the Chargers to adjust. However, that doesn't mean Gallup had a good night. 10 targets should result in more than 3 receptions.

Short arms a ball on 3rd and 6 where his route was ran short of the 1st and drops a td that was perfectly thrown in the 2nd. Great game..

Put it in 3 inch headlines:

GALLUP'S CRAPPY PLAY OPENS UP OFFENSE, COWBOYS WIN
I mean, it's a common strategy, if you have someone good enough to play the possession guy. You target him over and over and then that opens up the offense. I'm not saying he played great. I'm saying they were forced to account for him.

It's more of an Xs and Os thing, and an overall team strategy, whereas you're obviously thinking about it from a PFFish, individual statistics point of view.

I also thought he played well.
