I really like this. I know some hate position flex, but you have to consider the playing ability of a player like Beebe vs. the next-best pure center. You take a guy who excelled at guard, which is more physically demanding than center, and move him if you have reason to believe he can handle the responsibility of center. That gives you a more physical player at center than you could probably get with the true centers available. Now, that doesn't necessarily make him a better center prospect than Barton, JPJ or Frazier but it could mean he's not far behind. Of course, the big question mark and why he doesn't go ahead of those centers is whether he can make the transition. It is a projection without a lot of evidence. He's got to be able to have his head on a swivel, snap the ball accurately and get his hands back in position to catch the defender exploding into him or around him at the snap. Don't want to make that sound like it is easy. The advantage of playing center over guard is that he gets to operate more in a phone booth (except on pulls) with help to the left and right of him. For a shorter-armed player with limited lateral agility, that's a good thing.
