Dalton will still be the starter when he clears the concussion protocol, so for a backup who else can step in and know the offense and OC, and have an instant connection with the players? Seemed to me this should have been the move instead of Gilbert.

That's a fair point. He actually looked pretty good in most of his preseason appearance. Definitely limited on arm strength, but seemed to make quick, quality decisions. Seems like a solid choice to backup Dalton, or maybe even start a game if needed. Did anyone expect a notabler deal for a proven former starter with a team in as bad shape as the Cowboys are?

That’s silly. Looney and Knight will be back soon and they will have actually a better line than what they started with because the kids have gotten more playing time.
