Get you finger out of his face and just leave. No need to talk **** and act like he has no authority to do his job. Cops are people too and sometimes, just like you and just like me, a belligerent ***** brings out the worst in us.

I'm guessing by his gestures he wasn't pleading his case, rather than playing the tough guy. Live and learn and stop looking for a pay day because you were shown the hard side of someone's hand.

Honestly, I don't know if the guy was saying something when he was walking away but it sure looked like the police officer was saying something to the guy when he was walking away. Thats when the guy stopped, turned around and then started talking back to the police officer and raised his finger and the cop punched him.

Still, the cop has no right to punch the guy because he might have SAID something.

That cop is going to be canned and the city sued.

Frankly I'm tired of everyone pushing the limits of civility then looking for a pay day for their stupid behavior. Sure the cops are and should be held to a standard of professionalism, but sometimes the human in the uniform is going to show through and I don't think anyone should be rewarded for pushing someone to that point. It sets a pretty bad precedent and eventually cops just aren't going to give a ****, when they're expected to be verbal punching bags for low-lives to vent on.

They're cops. They know what they're getting into. Yes, they're human, but that doesn't give him the right to SUCKER PUNCH a guy in the face, especially when the guy was not physical with the cop. How you can defend the cop on this one is beyond me. He DESERVES TO BE SUED.

I don't give a damn what he said, it doesn't entitle the cop to punch the guy.

Take him down, handcuff him, even with what may seem slightly excessive force, but this is unacceptable.

The cop strikes me as some kind of machismo hot head. I'd hate to see what would happen when he looses his cool with his gun

It's the cops job to maintain composure and resolve the situation, not just deck people in the face who have a dispute with the situation.

The officer wasn't put in danger at all and simply snapped. I doubt the guy had the intention of pushing the cop to the point of fist fighting.

The cop was clearly saying something before the man stopped.

To make matters worse, the cop flat out lied about the situation.

He should be fired and charged as any of the rest of us would for pummeling a guy like that without good cause or in self defense.

How could 30 seconds of video give you an impression of a person that you didn't already have predetermined? Machismo hot heads Good God. Act like a jerk get treated like a jerk, it's no plainer than that. I'll give myself 100 turns with that cop and walk away with not one hair on my head out of place, because he'd have no reason to. Coincidence or the difference between a rational mind and blithering imbecile?

Yeah he was probably saying quit talking and keep walking you bum. How dare he? Either way, I'm tired of seeing low-lives empowered by unrealistic and in general hypocritical standards placed on a civil society.

I'm more inclined to think you shouldn't treat a cop like he's some bum in the bar to argue with when he's clearly called in due to you acting like an *** in public.

Neither of us have any idea what was said. We can only speculate as to why the man who was perfectly fine walking out turned around and got agitated after the cop spouted off.

Either way, I don't see how the cops actions could be defended.

"Cops are people too........but bums aren't and they should shut up and keep walking".

If you're going to expect better from the general population in terms of treatment of cops, you should expect better from the cops in terms of treatment of the general population. If he was insulting the guy and refusing to listen to his side of the story, he's no better than the guy who got angry. The fact that he decked him and then hit him in the ribs a couple of times makes this cop no better than the average crook.

Hey, I'll admit, I don't know the man and this could be completely out of character for him but I specifically and deliberately used the words "strikes me as" so that it was clear I was not attempting to make a deliberative statement of fact. It was an impression the video left me with because it reminded me of other machismo hotheads I've encountered that have acted in the same manner. Again, I didn't declare him to be a machismo hothead, I merely stated he struck me as one. Subtle difference but a difference nonetheless.

Why is it not sufficient to simply take him down if necessary, handcuff him and take him to jail?

My guess is they were escorting him off the property, so in my opinion, escalating it to an arrest would have been more than enough punishment for anything he may have said.

I sympathize with some of your sentiment but I don't think this is a very good example to make your point, but you're entitled to your opinion,

Cops don't get to beat on people. It absolutely makes no difference whatsoever what the guy said to him. The guy did nothing at all to warrant any use of force.

The cop should and likely will be fired. The plain truth of it is some guys who are cops think they can do whatever they want and get on a silly power trip and abuse the authority they're given to protect people. This type of stuff usually doesn't get caught on a clear camera feed, and it's the guy's word against the cop. Usually that means the cop claims the guy swung on him first and he was protecting himself, and nothing happens. That's why these guys think they can get away with this type of garbage.

Was the patron being an ***? Apparently so, at least enough to have security/police called. Was he doing anything on the way out? It did not appear so. Did the officer say something that made the guy turn around and become angry enough to argue? It sure looks that way from the tape. Did the patron swing at the cop? Nope. Did the cop overreact? Damn straight.

From the story and the video, the cop is in the wrong from the time the patron begins walking out without incident. The cop obviously said something that made the patron stop and engage him VERBALLY. From all appearances, the cop instigated the final confrontation, not the patron. Even in the confrontation, the patron appears to be pointing back to the area they just left, not at the cop.

I don't feel bad that the patron got decked, he deserved it for being an ***. But for a public servant to instigate the final confrontation and be the one to deck him, that is not reasonable.
