Thats just crazy, guy did nothing for 3 yrs, then boom. I really liked him at Texas. I'd convinced myself I was just a homer though.

The idea of the franchise tag has become diluted.

By no stretch of the meaning of the word is Redding a franchise-player.

Maybe Detroit is just buying extra time to negotiate with him. They can drop the franchise tag at any time and get a contract done with him. Of course, Matt Millen is in charge and has made many poor choices. Redding is a decent player, but nothing special.

I believe they franchised Jeff Backus last year as well, which was a head scratcher..
