Very hard to evaluate last year's performance for the cornerback group; loss of Parsons pass rush, conservative scheme and injuries play a big part in their struggles. It just felt like they were disjointed from the front 7 and the back-end which led to a ton of blown coverages.
Bland-very inconsistent throughout the season, 1 good game followed by one terrible one. We found out he was dealing with a foot injury throughout the season which lead to another surgery this offseason. A former turnover machine, had just a handful of pass breakups. The loss of pass rush really affected his playmaking skillset. Can he stay healthy? Can he return back to that playmaker with a better pass rush?
Revel-a talented corner that fell to the 3rd rd due to an acl injury. He had a setback in camp that caused him to miss almost the entire season. With no offseason, they just threw him into the fire late in the year. Started off playing well, then really had his struggles where teams were targeting him with great success. We have no idea if this kid can play, but considering the circumstances he deserves a mulligan. This will be CP's pet project. Has all the raw traits, now they have to get that potential out of him. Can he win a starting job?
Durant-probably the de facto starter, unless Revel or someone else wins the job. He is that so called "bridge" veteran starter who allows time for a younger prospect to develop. Doesn't have those physical traits that McClay usually targets but he is a capable starting caliber corner.
Moore-I would put him in that same category as Revel. Has all the physical traits for the position, he just needs to develop into a quality corner. Unlike Revel, he is even more of an injury risk. Has missed a ton of games on the college level. Can he push to become a starter as a rookie?
Stewart-he actually was one of the better defensive backs last season. Can play the slot and even safety in a pinch. Has a good chance to stick as that versatile backup.
Carson/Butler/Bridges/Kendricks-put all these players on the outside, looking in category. They must win a roster spot in camp. If the team does sign another veteran, these players will be looking to play elsewhere.
