Cortez has made all of his fg attempts but one, and the extra point he missed - while he still should've made it - wasn't his fault.

His kickoffs have also seemed strong to me (5 touchbacks), so I thought it would be interesting to check, and he rates as one of the top 10 kickoff guys in the league so far, with only a few hands down better than him. a few of the worst reside in our division.

Best
1. Rackers, ariz (72.3 avg distance, 26.2 avg opponent starting position)
2. scobee, jax (69.0, 25.4)
3. Wilkins, st.l (68.8, 22.9)
4. Janikowski, Oak (68.7, 28.5)
5. saeurbrun, den (67.8, 24.5)
6. Bironas, ten (67.4, 24.2)
7. Mare, Mia (66.9, 27.2)
8. Kasay, Car (66.7, 24.3)
9. Brown, sea (66.7, 26.1)
10. Cortez (66.3, 26.0)

Worst
1. Hanson, Det (58.2, 26.4)
2. Vanderjagt, Ind (58.5, 31.8)
3. Novak, wash (59.0, 28.4)
4. France, Phil (61.0, 41.9)
5. Bryant, tb (61.8, 28.9)

As a comparison, Cundiffs kickoffs only traveled 62.4 last year, one of the worst in the league.

Cortez is as good all around as any kicker in the league right now.

Cortez has really turned it around. He's good in my book and I apologize for dissin' him earlier in the year. I guess it was the snapper afterall :D

And the one field goal he missed, we lost the game by 1. We lost 14-13, he hits that FG and we're up 16-0, forcing the Commanders to go for 2 both times they scored their touchdowns, JUST TO TIE.

That was a HUGE miss.

True, and the extra point he missed could have cost us the sf game.

But neither were a pressure situation with the game on the line at the time, and I think if he only misses 1 field goal every 5 games, we'll be okay with the kicker.

plus the washington miss wasn't a chip shot.

This just goes to show everyone needs a shakedown from Larry Allen from time to time.

You can point out alot of plays where we could shoulda woulda, and would ahve won the game. Had we moved the ball and got closer he might have made it. All that matters is he has been efficent for us, unlike some

At the time, it wasn't a huge deal. But it turned out that way in hindsight because of how the game evolved. It all comes down to timing and situations. A five yard run is great on 4th and four, but a bad play on 4th and six. Either way it looks good on the stat sheet.

I still trust him about as far as I can throw him...(not nearly as far as LA could throw him)
I saw him choke WAY too many times in San Fran.
I can't find fault in his play thus far, he's been better than Cundiff if for no other reason than his kickoffs have been getting to the endzone often. Cundiff's KO's were so short their offense always started between the 30 and 45, always.
I still don't trust Cortez to make a gamewinner in a pivotal game from more than 20 yards out. But hopefully he has put the choking years behind him.....but I'm still watching him with suspicion...

well i do belive that last year, we had one of the best kickoff teams, hlding teams to the 26 or 25 yard line, so cundifff's kickoffs only problem was he never got them in the endzone, if he was a problem, they would have cut him a long time ago, the fact that he got hurt, and we didnt have room for two kickers, got him the ticket out.
