Uh, we released Gurode in part because of his bad snaps. Costa had 2.

I'm not sayin, I'm just sayin...

Awesome already known fact.

Just sayin...awesome thread is awesome

We also didn't release AG because of bad snaps. Far more to it than that simple statement.

Costa snap when Romo was not ready was a mistake but overall I was pleased with the job he and the other young OL players did.

Me too. I'm not particularly upset with Costa's play...I just don't think he deserves a free pass considering all the flak that Gurode caught.

I also saw Costa make blocks Gurode would of had no chance of making. Lets face it, the Cowboys did not part with a Pro Bowl Center to just dance the Offensive Line Shuffle. Gurode looked two steps slower all camp, the doctors had concerns about his knees and the Cowboys got more athletic and younger.

I expect growing pains. Not sure the basis of this criticism beyond impatience and agenda.

Yep, they battled hard and the large stage did not seem too big for them. We might have finally built a good OL.

agenda has nothing to do with it. I don't think Gurode should have been cut, no. It's an opinion.

Yeah I felt they held their own vs a defense that can confuse the best OL out there. Our guys made mistakes but they will continue to learn as they gain experience. Overall play I felt they did a good job.

gurode did it quite a few times over the years. Costa did it once, twice in his first game? Give the kid a break, if it becomes a problem then he will catch hell for it just the same. Oh and you forget to mention we got younger, more athletic and also the huge difference in paychecks. If anything last night made me feel a lot better about cutting him.

First start and you are comparing him to a guy that has made a career of bad snaps?

You have to stop taking satisfaction from these kinds of posts. :D

The early snap at the end was obviously one, but when was the other bad snap? I don't remember it.

I don't remember specifically, but it was the same thing with an early snap. Tony just was able to catch it.

I'll agree the o-line did a decent job in pass protection last night. That said, who do ya'll blame for our complete lack of running game? Doesn't that have to go on the o-line as well?

Phil Costa will be the next Jeff Saturday... Which is fine by me. Might not constantly overpower people but he'll definitely make some very good mobile blocks!

Snaps were a part of Gurode's problems. Degenerative knees, immobility, concrete feet and a $7 million dollar contract for a backup caliber player (which is what he had to settle for on the open market) factored in as well. Costa already proved he was at least as good as Gurode today (although I saw him making 2nd level blocks that Gurode simply would never be able to make), and will be better than Gurode by the end of the season.

Yes I would say so I would also say the Jets defensive front who is one of the top run stopping teams played a big part. I was not expecting Dallas to run the ball over the Jets just be able to do enough to keep them honest.

The one at the end was a problem that Romo had with Gurode as well. When crowd noise is high, they use a leg lift and count system. The center is looking back at the feet of the quarterback and waiting for the preset number of leg lifts. On the final leg lift, the center looks forward again, counts in his head and snaps on the preset count or immediately.

The problem Tony has is that sometimes in his haste to make line adjustments in noisy situations, he moves forward with a quick jerk motion. When he does this he lifts his front leg .. although he does not lift it as high as a real snap leg lift, the problem is that he is moving forward at the same time. It creates an illusion of a higher leg lift because the perspective changes because Tony is moving closer, even if only a few inches, to Costa.

If you go back at the 8 second mark of the game, you will see Tony put his hand down to tell Costa that he is going to make some adjustments. Costa misses the hand signal and sees Romo take a step forward which, again, looks like a leg lift which is why he snapped it. It was a simple case of miscommunication really.
