Coughlin doesn't trust Eli's arm

I had to laugh at how bad Coughlin choked on those two blown 4th down plays. 4th and a long 2 and the Giants run it. 4th and less than a foot and Eli sneaks it??????

First they lose confidence in Eli, then lose it in their power running game.

The 4th and a long 2 was really bad. They just didn't trust Eli to throw it. His noodle arm was a real issue in the wind. He's a touch passer and the Giants stadium in Dec/Jan is probably the worst place for him to play. It's not the cold, but the wind. Maybe they should have thought about putting a dome over the new stadium. Even Favre might have stayed another year. ha ha

I don't get the problem. I probably would have made the same call on both plays. The QB sneak when all you need is inches is a given. And Jacobs was pounding them all day. He had nearly a 6.0 average at that point in the game. I'm not sure if it was a "long 2" or not, but it's certainly not a questionable call.

They are first and foremost a running team, why would they throw on short yardage?

Because they are a running team and the defense is expecting it. I don't think it was a bad call I do think calling a pass on the play would have been a good option. They went with what they felt they could do and it did not work that does not make it a bad call but of course when a play does not work the play calling will come into question.

I don't know. I think if you're a running team then you run the ball, don't out smart yourself. There's nothing wrong in doing what you've been doing all year to get to that point. If it doesn't work, it doesn't work.

Better than trying to outsmart themselves and throw a screen 5 yards behind the line of scrimage on a 4th and inches.

Giants were down by two scores with 7 minutes remaining in the game. On two consecutive drives, they ran the ball 7 straight times.

That pretty much tells you what Coughlin thought of Eli on that day.

I don't think taking your opponet into consideration is out smarting yourself. Philly is a good short yardage defense and 2 yards is going to be tough when Philly is expecting the run. I'm not saying what Coughlin did was right or wrong he went with his gut and it did not work out for him.

How many teams run on 4th and 2?
The decission to go for it in itself was bad. On your own side of midfield? He should have thrown it there and pounded it on 4th and inches. It was bad coaching, bad play calling and bad execution.

Why is it stupid? Much more often than not, you're going to make that conversion.

I don't know that those two plays justify the thread...but I wouldn't trust Eli's arm either. With Plaxico gone, the chuck-and-pray is gone, and Eli will come back down to where he belongs.

That makes too much sense to the "gotcha" "I hate Eli" crowd.

You'd think we Cowboys fan have enough to be concerned about then rejoicing because a team we don't like failed to advance in the playoffs.

I guess it's a lllooonnnggg offseason. :(

They're the best rushing team in the league with the best O-line in the league. It would be dumb to put it in Eli's hand. The percentages were in their favor.
