Could Anquan Boldin help the Cowboys?

Boldin looks useless to me right now.

A) I think he's too slow to get any separation anymore. So he'd probably just be what everyone whines about Dez being -- a guy who you have to just force the ball to him and hope he out-muscles the defender who is all over him. And hope he holds onto it through the constant contact.

B) Even if he gets separation, it'll be purely because of his route-running or because he'll be running routes short of the sticks all day every day as defenders concede the underneath stuff. Not that there's anything wrong with being a technician running shorter routes. It's just: that's all Witten does anymore. That's all Beasley does. That's all Switzer's gonna do when he joins the offense for real someday. We've already got technicians to run short routes and work their way open as possession receivers underneath.

Boldin looks done. Managed less than 9 yards per reception last season. That's legitimately terrible.

Plus he'll command more money than he's worth.

Plus he'll take a roster spot from somebody who might actually stumble into being useful, which Boldin really wouldn't.

Plus it'll take him weeks to get into game-shape.

And weeks to get the system down.

And weeks to get on the same page with a new passer.

Hard pass.

Not now.

He's a slot guy and although I do think he could play a Fitzgerald type of role I think you're better off using a young Noah Brown who is essentially the same thing and is about 15 years younger with a lower price tag.

Unless he can cover or tackle, I see no way that he can help fix what's wrong with this team (and what has been wrong for about a decade, for that matter).

He would have to play more of a TE role these days, just not fast or quick enough to do much else.

John Daniels, the Rangers GM, once alluded to a team needing to 'earn' help from the FO before the trade deadline.

This essentially meant that the team would need to show something worthy of trading away assets for in order to act on and seize the opportunity for a championship run.

Our offense has earned help from the FO, but it's defensive help they need.

John Daniels is why the Rangers will never sniff the playoffs until he is gone.
