Could Free move to guard if starting OT is drafted?

LB is likely not the BPA @ 16.

If the massive LT Lewan falls to 16 he will be the highest rated or best player available to Draft, even if WR Mike Evans or TE Eric Ebron are still on the board.

However, OT/G Zack Martin may be the safest pick in the NFL Draft.

I really, really like Lewan a lot. I think he is going to be a very good player and his attitude is something Dallas could use a little bit more of. If we think Lewan is BPA, then I am all for it.

I truly think Lewan ends up a NY Giant though, which I will hate.

Ouch!

So what was it with him? Injury issues? Lack of athleticism?

I'm not really sure what his deal was. I thought he'd be a pretty good T... solid at worst... but he seems to be a bonafied bust. He had the tough, aggressive attitude that you like to see and good size but he can't seem to play, even at guard.

Honestly, not a fan of Martin at 16. In a trade down at like 31, sure.

Read a post that rumor has it that Dallas views Zach as strictly an OG. And, they rate him as the 3rd best guard, so he's not a 1st rd option.

I recall Garrett saying last year at a press conference that moving to guard was one of the things taken into consideration when Free was asked to take a pay cut. At one point it looked like a done deal, and then it wasn't. Don't really know what happened. Now, here it is again. Apparently, someone at Valley Ranch thinks Free can play guard.

Honestly I think its a stupid move. Sometimes the safest pick is not the best. If they take an OT and move Free to guard I'll be disappointed. I don't even think that Free is really cut out to be a guard. e

This is just another experiment thats going to go bad. Probably its nothing more than posturing before the draft. But if it does happen I'll be very disappointed.

Why would Free move to G? Isn't his problem his anchoring and hand strength?

He's at tackle because he's got the feet, he was more effective this year because he had more G help from Waters/Bernadeu. I don't think he'd make a very good guard at all.

The part about Free moving to guard if they were to draft a tackle in the first round is interesting, I haven't heard much about it. I've only read that the tackle would simply be a backup until Free is gone. Would Free be better than Bernie or Leary? Would this move make the line better with Free at G and another young stud(if one were to fall) at tackle rather than the current setup?

Why would they play Free at G when they have Leary and Mack who are better.

Free played Guard pretty well last Preseason. Sure why not. More likely it is a smokescreen for a Dlineman.

But why come out and say you have little interest in Safety early, or Martin as a OT and basically will not take a QB early i.e. "you don't rebuild with Romo".

It's the same way around here every year, but you don't see successful teams spoutting off about their intentions prior to the draft. It's another in the long list of why Dallas is hampered with Jones at the helm.

Still fighting handicapped with Jerral Wayne in control.

Depends on who you are talking about as the OT in the first round.

If it is Lewan, sure. If it is Martin, I would rather kick him inside to LG than move Free, then flop him over when Free is gone.

Ron Leary did an okay job last year, but he is just as replaceable as Bernadeau.

I agree, with Martin you'd think he can step in a be a great guard for you and then move him later on although from what I've read, he may not be a great NFL tackle. If its Lewan, obviously he's gotta start because that's a guy who can probably step in right away and stay there for a long time.

Do you guys think that Lewan could fall to 16th because of the recent incidents?
