Could Jerry pull this off in the fifth round

For me, while he has talent, he has too many red flags for a QB.

I wouldn’t want to be the first to see how he responds to coaching outside of his father. He has a history of blaming teammates. It has been reported that he didn’t think he had a lot to work on. He does stupid trick plays at his pro day. He seems entitled and his talent doesn’t match his ego. He seems to be tremendously lacking in self awareness. And there is no way Dion can stay out of his business.

I feel bad for the kid…it had to be hard growing up with Dion as a helicopter dad. But unless he has a major personality change, I wouldn’t want him on my team in any round.

Dak
..... Dak it's not capable of taking the Cowboys past the first round of the playoffs without the proper coaching and talent added to the roster...
No kidding. You can say this about any QB in the league, including Mahomes, Allen, et al.

It is exactly something they would do.
At this point, I say do it. If for anything the entertainment it will create on here.
As well as the media circus it brings to Jerry World.

Think of all the Jersey's it will sell.
Think of Sanders being the first QB in the modern era to wear a QB number higher than 19.
You know Jerry will go against the NFL, and give him #21.
Can't believe you of all people would say this, after all off season of not complaining, him bringing another portion of a circus to a new coach, and the CULTURE they're trying to change is puzzling to see from you!

No

Those guys can operate with less talent and still elevate the team as long as they have the proper coaching.
DAk it is a good quarterback but he is not on the level of mahomes Josh Allen Lamar Jackson or Joe burrows.
Injuries have also compromised daks mobility.

That said he is being paid as though he is on their level

Collusion clearly going on. No Coach or organization wants to deal with Poptimus Prime. Kinda feel bad for Shedeur.

Can't say I'd love picking him but can any of us identify a pick that would definitely be more use at this point?

This team has enough distractions. No thank you and it’s not even close.

OMG the browns probably the last place prime Junior wanted to go what a hoot had it all cocked and primed that he was going to go in the first few pics to the team he wanted and ends up in NFL's outhouse.
Jerry saved from himself by the horrible browns

Oy....

First, you said that Dak can't succeed without good coaching and the right players around him. I said that's true about any QB.

Burrow:
Started all 17 games last year. They missed the playoffs with a 9-8 record, and he ABSOLUTELY had a better offensive roster at WR and RB than the Cowboys. Also, they were sub .500 in 2023 before Burrow hurt his wrist. Not a lot of elevating there.

Contracts
He who signs last gets the most in the ever-escalating upper-tier QB contract department. That's how it has worked forever. Other than guessing, you have no idea how Mahomes would play without great coaching and studs at WR/TE and RB, and he's had multiple studs every season between the two positions since he became a starter. I'm not saying Dak's a better QB than Patrick, but I am saying that Patrick has had better coaching and a better roster every year except maybe Dak's rookie campaign when we went 13-3.

Patrick has always had a great coach and has been throwing to a HoF TE his entire career, and he's taken advantage of it. He's thrown to Kelce more than any other receiver. He had Hill at his fastest. Hill has made Tua look great at times. Patrick has almost always had a decent run game.

Note: While Josh makes $5mm less annually than Dak, he also has more guaranteed money than Dak by almost $20mm.

My biggest gripe about the QB position isn't Dak. As I said earlier, I think he's Top 5, but I'll give you Top 10-12 if you don't think he's Top 5. No, the problem I have is that we've only been able to sign him to 4 year contracts. Kudos to his agent, I guess. Add to that the FO's inability or unwillingness to get a deal inked earlier rather than later (applies to all the high-profile positions with the Cowboys. See: Parsons) and we end up wasting a ton of money.
