Could Norv have gotten inside info on Rivera from his brother?

Maybe Norv's brother (who is a coach for the Bears) told Norv to go after Rivera. That Lovie gets to much credit for the Bear's d.

The NFL will probably rule tampering and not allow Dallas to hire Rivera. Don't think it is too far fetched. They did it with Billick back in the late 90s.

Gotta have proof. You think Ron Turner is going to roll over on his brother?

I'm 99% sure that Ron Turner isn't the real Benjamin Franklin. Word on the streets is he doesn't have syphillis.

that wasnt why we couldnt hire Billick...Billick tried to resign under contract and accept a much higher paid coordinator position here...the league refused...Billick was extremely PO'd

Yes, but is he near-sighted or far-sighted?

Now, correct me if I'm wrong - but I thought that Turner (or others) ARE allowed to talk to Rivera. Just not the Cowboys (or any other team with a position available).

Both, that's why he invented the bifocal.

*argh!!!*

Classic. Honestly, Ron Turner ended up being kind of a sleazeball.

Rivera and Turner know each other. Rivera has actually called Turner in the past to become his OC should he get a HC gig. They obviously have talked and feel comfortable with each other. It will be interesting to see what happens next week!

:welcome: to the forum.

I think Ron Turner might be more focused on the Super Bowl than hooking his brother up with Rivera.

My sentiments as well.

Think of it...at first Norv was going to be answering to Rivera as his OC. Now...Rivera will be answering to Norv if he were annointed the HC of the Boys.

Either way, I think they are cool enough with each other to let the best man when in the end (as the HC)...whether that be now or down the road.

I read somewhere that there is no rule to keep Norv from talking to other assistants.

But even if he talked to him or did it through his brother, I can't imagine there was a detailed conversation -- i'd imagine the coaches are working pretty long days right now and don't have time to think about other stuff.

Makes you wonder why a guy like him could be an OC, and a stripper can't.

So nice of TO to stop in and post his thoughts!! :D

This is only going to get sticky if after Feb 20th Rivera is hired as the DC. If he is hired as the HC, no problem.

But.... if it appears that we brought him in under the guise of a head Coach interview just to see if we want him as DC then there are going to be a few problems.

Because.....

1) The reports are already out that Norv wanted Rivera as DC.

2)If Rivera gets a wink and a nod from Jerry, during the HC interview, that he wants him as DC after the 20th and Rivera does not negotiate in good faith with the Bears before then, it will appear as if we already offered him the DC position before we were supposed to.

3) In this case you almost have to wait to name Norv the HC until Rivera is available to become the DC. Otherwise it looks like you already have an agreement in place.

All hard to prove but it would look very fishy to hire Norv on Feb 5th and then pickup Rivera on Feb 21st. IMO

The NFL might retroactively make it illegal. It will be, "the Turner rule."
