Former Commanders quarterback Joe Theismann articulated his opinion on the subject during the telecast.

“Let’s stop beating around the bush,” Theismann said, via The Washington Post. “Kirk Cousins has played much better at the quarterback position than Robert Griffin III has. Now, Robert is learning to work out of a pocket. He doesn’t look as smooth or as comfortable throwing the football. I mean, your eyes will tell you everything you need to know.

“It’s going to be a decision that Jay Gruden is going to have to make,” Theismann said. “Right now, Robert Griffin III is his quarterback. Now, if there was a quarterback competition, it wouldn’t be a competition. Kirk Cousins would be the man I believe he would have to go to, because of the efficiency with which he has run [the offense]. Now Kirk, like I said, is basically a drop-back quarterback. I see Andy Dalton in Cincinnati, I see Kirk Cousins that way.

No way RG3 is benched for Cousins, even if it's clear to everyone it needs to be done. Washington traded the #6 and #39 picks in 2012, the #22 pick in 2013 and the #2 pick in 2014 for RG3 and it would be extremely embarrassing for the organization to admit that those picks were wasted. And while RG3 and the media was able to rationalize his benching at the end of last season as either an attempt to keep him healthy or an attempt by Shannahan to sabatoge Washington, it's quite clear that RG3s ego won't be able to handle getting benched this season due to poor play. Washington has to see this through until they are ready to move on, because switching QBs too soon, will lead to losing RG3

Look this guy is not that good.
Not QB smart. Very much like Vick.

His career won't last nearly as long as Vick's.

I see 6-10 for the Skins.

Ah, so many doubters. RGME has been telling all the doubters to keep doubting. Insecurity and emotional weakness is a beautiful thing to see in another team's QB.

Tony Romo will still be starting in this league long after RG3-10 has begun his new career selling insurance.

Joe went on to say that you didn't have to be Norman Einstein to realize who was better.

I'm not a fan of Griffin at all but who cares what Theismann thinks. His opinion means nothing in this matter.

I disagree. The Commanders do not need to bench him but I am sure they could get some picks back for him. So many teams see wilson and Kaep and would drool over RG3. I could see a team like Arizona give up a handful of picks if DC is truly done with RG3, it would hinder Washington to hold on to him to make a point if he truly is not in their plans.

So much for the original plan of trading Cousins to recoup picks. RG3 can't be trusted to make it through a season and may not even be dependable enough to be the choice at QB. Heath Shuler/Gus the Ferret all over again.

Seems like RG3 may go down as the Gale Sayers of QBs.

Not right now.

That's really why Shanahan was fired. He favored Cousins over RG3.

The more I watch RG3 the less I'm impressed with him. He has big issues with his mechanics in the pocket. He can't see over his O-Linemen and is poor at finding the passing lanes to throw the ball and has awful footwork.

And when you think about it...RG3's wide receivers at Baylor were Josh Gordon, Kendall Wright and Terrance Williams. Gordon was arguably the best WR in football last year. Wright is looking like a very good #1 WR and Williams looks like a very good #2 WR at this point. And they combined for 225 catches for 3,461 yards last year. I tend to think that with Briles' style of offense and the quality of WR's, it made RG3 look much better than he is.
