Could this be the week we finally unleash Lucky?

I really hope to see him returning kicks and punts here very soon.

He's better than Street.

You might be onto something there. At least, there's a chance he might get open -- which is something that Street absolutely cannot do to save his soul. Let's see if this guy can make a difference, once and for all.

Am I missing something here? I've seen several threads about Whitehead and his ability, what has he done to garner so much respect? Why hasn't he been on the field?

It's not likely that someone will garner respect when the staff is afraid to give a rookie a chance to work. What has Street done lately to make you want to keep him active? Perhaps that's even a better question. Lucky has quickness and speed that Street will never have -- I'd say that's a pretty good starting point. He's also proven he's able to catch well. Maybe it's time to see if he offers something for this offense that's been missing. We need a spark.

1) He had several really good punt returns in the preseason + caught a TD
2) He's stupidly fast

I don't really think he's "garnered respect" yet, but people do believe he has a lot of potential.

What's with the use of the term, "unleash" lately? When I hear that term "unleash" and the name "Lucky", they just don't seem to go together. To me, "unleash" invokes images of a wild animal while the name "Lucky" invokes images of a domesticated pet. I'm sorry, just my two cents. Anyone agree?

Myself not as hung up on the terminology as you are I will say I think he is capable of doing a better job in the return game that what we have been getting.

I don't know that lucky will make a big impact as a reciever. He is still very raw there, but he could as a return guy.
He looked good in pre season as a return guy and they have treated him like they did Harris and brought him along slowly. People forget Harris didn't do returns right away either
But in a game no one gives us a shot at winning I think it's a good time to give him reps as a return guy
He will make mistakes but that's part of learning. But he has the potential to give us much better field position on punts.
Even guys with experience make mistakes, Dunbar made one when he returned kick he was hurt on.
But in time lucky I think can be an impactful return guy and hopefully a reciever who can make some plays, though that's going to take more time I think

I think the coaches like him but wanted to get him accustomed to being an NFL player before giving a chance to get the ball because apparently he has had issues with being overly nervous/anxious in games.

He was so nervous in a radio interview that he had "shake voice" as the radio guys call it.

I agree
They did the same with Harris and they know he will make some mistakes but in this game the reward may very well out weigh the risk
He seems to be a guy who can really help field position as a punt returner and that could be huge as the season goes on

Good point but at some point they'll have to give him a chance to get accustomed to the big stage. He's not so likely to do so in practices that don't really put him to the test. Hopefully, he'll learn to relax and take the stress in stride like a true pro. The staff will have to either let him play or languish inactively for no telling how long. Seems to me there's not an awful lot to lose, considering how ineffective our offense is at present.

It would be nice if he could catch a pass or two before having the stress of being a returner. Maybe they'll have him return Kick-Offs and just down it in the end-zone. Punts are much more stressful in terms of handling the ball than Kick-Offs.

I'm not saying that he doesn't have ability, I'm just questioning why he hasn't been on the field yet and guys like Butler and Street has.
